About you and this role -

Dow has an exciting opportunity for an Operator in Orange, Texas within Sabine River Operations (SRO).

In this role, you will utilize operations knowledge and experience, to proactively operate the plant in a safe, reliable, and optimal manner. You will work with shift team members to efficiently anticipate and resolve unplanned events within the capabilities of the shift team and effectively escalates issues that cannot be resolved to the appropriate support roles.

Responsibilities -

  • Follow Operating Discipline policies, principles, procedures, standards and practices to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of assigned plant areas
  • Operate process equipment by monitoring process conditions, key performance metrics, field equipment and control systems. Making appropriate decisions to maintain and/or achieve desired rates and conditions aligned with Plant/Site/Business goals
  • Serve on site Emergency Response Team (ERT) and attend all required training (Fire Response, HAZMAT, Medical, etc)
  • Conduct effective shift relief, as defined in facility specific operating discipline and tools, to ensure effective communication and handoff to arriving shift team
  • Use process knowledge and skills to improve plant performance and operating discipline. Proactively identify improvements and opportunities utilizing facility improvement processes, appropriate management of change processes and communication tools
  • Maintain qualifications in assigned areas, per facility policy, and complete training goals in a timely manner. This includes using discretionary time to address skills and knowledge gaps
  • Mentor and train new and existing operations personnel on process operation, optimization, effective troubleshooting, emergency response and the use of operating discipline in alignment to plant's training process
  • Perform scheduled operational and related tasks and unscheduled tasks that arise because of unplanned/non-routine events
  • Perform Immediate Response/Severe Weather Response activities, as assigned

Qualifications -

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and one or more of the following:
    • 2 or more years of experience in an Operations role within a Chemical Manufacturing environment
    • In lieu of a degree Dow will consider those with 3 or more years of relevant military experience
    • Successful candidates must be able to work 12 hour rotating shift schedule and work overtime as required, including Holidays and Weekends
  • Must have valid US Driver’s License
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

Preferred Qualifications -

  • Associate degree or higher in Process Plant Technology or related field
  • Experience issuing safe work permits

Your Skills –

Process Equipment Operation: The ability to monitor, control, and adjust industrial process equipment and systems to maintain safe and efficient plant operations. This includes interpreting process conditions and making decisions to achieve desired production rates.

Emergency Response: The capability to act quickly and effectively during emergencies such as fires, chemical spills, or severe weather events. This involves following established protocols, using safety equipment, and participating in specialized training like HAZMAT and fire response.

Trouble Shooting: The skill of diagnosing and resolving operational issues in equipment or processes. It requires analytical thinking to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain reliability.

Operating Discipline Compliance: Adherence to standardized policies, procedures, and safety practices that govern plant operations. This ensures consistency, reliability, and compliance with regulatory and company standards.

Mentoring and Training: The ability to guide and develop other team members by sharing knowledge, demonstrating best practices, and providing feedback. This helps build team competency in process operations, safety, and emergency response.

The physical abilities, with or without reasonable accommodations, include:

  • Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPD), such as earplugs, goggles, respirators. and steel-toed shoes including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs. 
  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
  • Work in tight and closed in spaces
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time. 
  • Lift a maximum of 50 lbs
  • This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground
  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
