About the Opportunity:
Our Corporate Communications department is seeking an experienced and energetic public relations/media professional to join the team as an Media & External Engagement Specialist reporting to the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications.
As our External Engagement Specialist, you will develop and implement public relations, media outreach, and audience engagement strategies that target local, regional, industry & national media outlets and other channels of influence to amplify the Richmond Fed’s work on strengthening the economy and the communities we serve.
Responsibilities include targeted media outreach, including the development of pitches, news releases and media advisories; development and execution of strategic public relations, thought leadership, audience engagement and marketing plans; assistance with crisis communications; and measurement, analysis and reporting of performance metrics.
What You Will Do:
Develop and execute strategic, comprehensive public relations and media outreach plans to reach target audiences through media coverage and social media.
Cultivate strong relationships with key local, regional, industry and national media outlets to proactively position the Richmond Fed and our experts as the preeminent thought leaders on topics relating to economic research, data acquisition and analysis; monetary policy; macro- and micro-economics; banking and regulation; and economic development.
Use industry-standard listening and reporting tools to measure and analyze the effectiveness of the Bank’s media outreach and thought leadership engagements, providing updates as required to internal stakeholders and Bank leaders.
Lead the Bank’s speaker’s bureau: Recommend appropriate subject matter experts (SMEs) for media engagement requests, lead media training, facilitate interviews and work with SMEs to develop talking points
Support crisis communications efforts in collaboration with other Bank stakeholders and leadership.
Partner on large institutional projects across the Communications function and the Bank as both a strategist and a hands-on tactician.
Qualifications:
7+ years of related experience, including demonstrated experience building and executing public relations, media outreach and thought leadership programs to advance organizational goals
Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, journalism, mass communication or related field or equivalent work experience required
Superior communication, writing and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into a set of clear and concise key messages
Energetic, flexible, and proactive self-starter with an ability to collaborate productively across teams and with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
Ability and willingness to function as both a strategic advisor and a hands-on tactician as needed
Experience with industry-standard media listening, monitoring, analysis and reporting
Media, public relations or thought leadership experience focused on banking, financial services or economic development a plus

The hiring range for Communicator - Senior is $95,000 - $120,000 annually
Salary offered will be based on the job responsibilities and the individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience as defined in the job qualifications.
This position is required to be onsite in Richmond, VA.
