What You Will Achieve

The Manager, EMU, Construction and Contractor Safety is responsible for representing Pfizer in the effective execution of the contractor and construction safety management processes.

This is a key role in ensuring the delivery of consistent, high-quality communications from the EHS department to the wider Kalamazoo site while being responsible for monitoring and/or auditing third-party contractor and/or construction activities for compliance with contract requirements. Manager will also support the Engineering, Maintenance and Utilities (EMU) departments as a safety liaison.

Oversee multi-disciplinary Construction and Contractor Safety team ensuring:

  • Safe and effective delivery of services within established schedule

  • ISNetworld and PROCORE qualification and safety requirements are met.

  • Appropriate project documentation is maintained.

  • Oversee and support day-to-day operations as the EMU Safety Liaison

  • This role will further develop, maintain, and oversee the construction safety contractor management program.

  • Ensure project delivery follows all contract documentation, applicable standards, guidelines, laws, regulations, codes, policies and Pfizer standards and recommended practices.

  • Participate in pre-construction project planning as needed.

  • Manage development and preparation of detailed project status reporting, presentations, and updates to related systems.

  • Ensure effective communication on project status and timely resolution of issues.

  • Conducts safety inspections, documents results, and corrective action of field assessments and audits of contractor and construction projects.

  • Works closely with construction business units' staff, contracts, legal, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Mentors EHS staff in all aspects of EMU, construction and contractor management

  • Assist in conducting area safety meetings and EHS committee meeting.

  • Support incident investigations to ensure timely identification of root cause and the implementation of effective CAPAs to reduce risk.

  • Ensure senior management / leadership is informed of EHS incidents in a timely manner.

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

  • Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of experience; OR a master's degree with at least 2 years of experience; OR a PhD with 0+ years of experience; OR as associate's degree with 8 years
    of experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience

  • Experience successfully deploying safety culture improvement programs across a large organization.

  • Experience effectively consulting and communicating at all levels of a large multidisciplinary campus.

  • Field experience in construction safety with a solid understanding of the areas of Hazard Communication, LOTO, Machine Guarding, Ergonomics, Incident Investigation, and Safety Training along with regulatory coordination and report preparation.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.

  • Proficiency at project management and internal customer management.

  • Success building effective working relationships with departmental leaders such as engineering, manufacturing and quality.

  • Strong understanding of safety regulatory requirements, specifically OSHA/NFPA standards and conducting regulatory compliance audits.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to use mathematics (including basic algebra and statistics).

  • Ability to gather and organize data from multiple sources.

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)


One or more of the following certifications:

  • Education in safety.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

  • Occupational Health Safety Technologist (OHST)

  • Construction Safety and Health Technologist (CHST).

  • Other professional certifications or board certification equivalency

  • Experience in the Pharmaceutical industry.

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May require walking, standing, sitting, and working at a computer for prolonged periods.

  • Cold, Heat and inclement weather exposure due to the need to inspect or observe outdoor construction projects across the campus.

    NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
    Standard work schedule, Monday – Friday, days; may infrequently require off-shift or weekend work to support tight project deadlines.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $96,300.00 to $160,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
