What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the plant maintenance department, engineering, capital, and parts/purchasing for the plant. The position will administer onsite policies and procedures to establish and promote safe and healthy working conditions while ensuring compliance with all OSHA regulations and site Safety Program Requirements. Manage the maintenance department to minimize plant delay, waste, and board cost. Assist with investigation and diagnosis of operating and maintenance problems and implement appropriate corrective measures. Manage the engineering program to administer and control all capital and major maintenance projects from conception to timely, cost contained completion.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Actively develop, implement and participate in all safety programs, rules and procedures.

  • Manage maintenance department equipment and personnel to minimize delay, waste, and board cost.

  • Maximize plant uptime by reviewing delay analysis from production/maintenance logs and implementing corrective actions.

  • Search out new technology/methods for improving maintenance practices.

  • Control maintenance department and capital/major maintenance project costs to not exceed monthly operating budgets and/or approved project budgets.

  • Supervision of maintenance foreman positions. Responsibilities include training, planning, assigning, directing work, and appraising performance.

  • Assist with the investigation and diagnosis of plant operating and maintenance programs. Recommend and initiate courses of action to the Production Manager and implement appropriate and approved corrective measures. Be available for any issues and/or problems that may arise within area of responsibility.

  • Administer the Company capital plan from project conception to timely cost contained completion.

  • Monitor energy consumption by each piece of equipment, investigate, and report on any abnormalities and recommend capital appropriations to minimize energy consumption.

  • Play a key role in development of capital plans and major maintenance plans.

  • Ensure that all project work is coordinated with the appropriate manufacturing and corporate personnel.

  • Direct and manage all engineering work to ensure good engineering practices are utilized, projects are adequately documented, and project budgets and schedules are met. Achieve a best practical solutions approach where costs are controlled, operational objectives are identified and met, and maintenance requirements are minimized.

  • Ensure all work is of first quality.

  • Implement and enforce all Company policies.

  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Ideal Background

Education:  Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Civil Engineering from an accredited university is preferred.  

Certification: Professional Engineering and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) registration is highly preferred.  

Experience: Requires up to 10 years of relevant experience in engineering and project management.

  • Excellent presentation skills.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically capable of climbing stairs.

  • Proficient verbal and written skills.

  • Must be able to read electrical and mechanical prints without assistance

  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.

  • Must have manual dexterity needed to type on a computer keyboard.

  • Continual hand/wrist motion is required to operate computers and office machinery

  • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license

  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds

  • Occasional local travel in a personal or company vehicle is required
