Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer at our Tilden Mine facility in Ishpeming, MI. This role is essential in maintaining and enhancing the performance, reliability, and safety of critical production equipment through the implementation of predictive, preventive, and emergency maintenance strategies. As part of a dynamic engineering team, the Maintenance Engineer will analyze equipment performance, troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, and lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at minimizing downtime and maximizing operational efficiency. You will also be involved in the design, modification, and modernization of plant equipment and systems to meet evolving production demands.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Monitor delay rates and product quality to assure equipment dependability and reliability.
- Provide expertise in troubleshooting and solving both electrical and mechanical problems of various pieces of plant equipment, including automatic conveyors, and overhead cranes.
- Works with the Maintenance Department with responsibilities including planning and supervising hourly employees.
- Work directly with customers regarding product quality and customer requests.
- Manage purchasing and analyzing costs for maintenance and plant supplies.
- Manage the Quality, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems.
- Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance of equipment
- Research, design, evaluate, install, modernize, re-design, operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment
- Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action
- Participate in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
- Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement
- Various other projects as needed to support the business
- Monitors and tracks line equipment availability and operating efficiency issues and creates “pareto” type analysis to identify key equipment problems / failures areas
- Performs root cause analysis to determine equipment failures and initiates necessary corrective action to eliminate/reduce such failures
- Updates drawings, coordinates with equipment suppliers and outside engineering to specify design requirements for new / modified equipment to improve operating performance and / or equipment reliability
- Coordinates the establishment of requirements, standards, and procedures for the equipment inspection, works closely with departmental inspectors and with the non-destructive testing / predictive technologies group for the proper, timely inspection testing of equipment
- Available off hours and weekends when business needs dictate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Systems
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems.
- Leadership, communication, computer, CAD, organizational, math and practical engineering skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years of heavy industry maintenance, technical and supervisory experience.
- Experience in mechanical systems including fluid and mechanical power, hydraulic control systems, pumps, piping.
- Experience in working with a formal quality system (ISO/QS).
- Experience in Preventive/Predictive Maintenance Systems.
