Lower Level Bench Coach

Summary:

The New York Mets are seeking a Lower-Level Bench Coach at our Low-A Port St. Lucie location. This role's responsibilities will include creating environments that develop players defensively and on the bases, with a specific focus on outfield and baserunning. This role will also assist with hitting development and player plans.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Execute the values and vision of the defense and baserunning group with a specific focus on outfield and baserunning

  • Provide daily practice and in-game coaching giving real-time feedback to position players, helping them translate training into gameplay

  • Utilize all available/relevant information across Player Development sub-departments to drive the development of each player

  • Create reports on individual and team fundamentals with a focus on our players’ execution both defensively and on the bases

  • Partner with other staff to conduct daily video review sessions teaching the game to players at a high level

  • Assist the hitting department with on-field coaching and player plans

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience within a professional organization or collegiate team as an on-field coach

  • Ability to throw batting practice, hit fungoes, and generally facilitate a baseball practice

  • Disposition to actively communicate across different disciplines within Player Development

  • Strong desire to impact the defensive/baserunning development of baseball players

  • Experience with hitting related technology (Blast, Trackman, HitTrax, high speed video)

  • Mindset/desire to learn, especially from those around them

  • Spanish fluency OR a desire to learn basic components of the language

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts for players

  • Desire to learn and stay updated with the latest developments in defensive/baserunning strategies, technology, and analytical best practices

  • Expertise or demonstrated application of a coaching discipline such as biomechanics, motor learning, skill acquisition, or sports psychology

  • Adaptable: eagerness to learn, adapt, and apply new knowledge in the field

  • Collaborative: ability to work well with other coaches, trainers, and front office personnel

  • Enthusiastic about evidence-informed approaches and the intersection of technology and player development

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000
