Overview:

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for 2 South- Acute Cardiac/Stroke Unit. This is a Full Time, third shift position in Suffolk, VA.

Hours: 7P to 7A with rotating weekend schedule.

The Acute Cardiac/Stroke Unit at Sentara Obici Hospital provides care for patients with cardiac conditions including heart failure, cardiac rhythm disturbances, newly implanted permanent pacemakers and defibrillators, post- coronary interventions, post-ablation, myocardial infarctions. 2 South also cares for pre/post catheterization, acute stroke, and post procedural neuro cases. This 25-bed unit sees a ratio of 1:6 with assistance of Patient Care Techs with a ratio of 1:8 on average. The unit cares for patients with acuity higher than a typical medical-surgical unit. 2 South Acute Cardiac is also preparing for a transition to a Cardiac PCU step-down before year's end, making it an exciting opportunity for nurses seeking growth in a dynamic, high-acuity setting. he Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) functions under the supervision of an RN or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) in the clinical setting, within the scope of practice dictated by the State Boards of Nursing. The LPN demonstrates professional and clinical knowledge relative to designated clinical practice setting in the delivery of direct patient care, adhering to the level of verified competency dictated by the site specific program. The LPN works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support and communicate effectively with other licensed independent practitioners (Physicians, NP, PA) in collaboration while providing care and treatment for patients, clinical support and teaching for patient and family members, and adheres to the legal and ethical standards of nursing practice. LPN manages responsibilities of workload with accuracy, provides excellence in customer service, performs testing, medication administration and the implementation of nursing interventions and care plans to support a holistic approach to patient care. The LPN serves as patient advocate in the prevention of illness or disease.

Education

  • Trade School Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nursing Program (Required)

Certification/Licensure

  • Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of practice

  • BLS within 90 days of hire

Experience

  • Acute care nursing experience preferred

  • Background in Stroke or Telemetry preferred

  • None Required
