Job Summary: The Radiology Service is a part of a large, complex, VA Medical Center with consults and referrals from VISN Medical Centers and outpatient clinics. The staff Radiologist reports to the Chief, Radiology Service, Chief of Staff, and Medical Center Director. Functions locally as a team member of the Radiology Service with a regular interface with the Chief of Radiology Service.

Major Duties:

  • A remote work schedule is available for highly qualified individuals. If remote work is offered, it is exempted from return to office requirements. Remote exempted positions are reviewed annually and do not imply permanent remote work status. Duties include, but are not limited to: Provide guidance and oversight for Radiology Technologist. Consultation with other Radiologists and other services as needed for patient care. Provide emergency care 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Research initiatives. Knowledge of all modalities of imaging as needed to practice the approved credentials. Knowledge of clinical conditions as required for adequately interpreting the imaging exams. Knowledge of Radiology image Archiving and viewing Software. Knowledge of Voice Recognition Dictation software Works with and is supported by Radiology Service leadership. Provides direct clinical and administrative oversight for technologists and other clinical staff as assigned. Responsible for providing services in an efficient, high-quality, cost-effective manner within budget allocation. Has basic understanding of managed care practices, including health care finance, billing, coding and documentation. Knowledge, ability and willingness to use and promote the dissemination among clinical staff of current automated technology for Health Information Management Sections (HIMS), patient data tracking, patient orders, etc. Practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self, in compliance with department and VA radiation safety procedures to maintain occupational exposures "as low as reasonably achievable" (ALARA). Provides patients with accurate and compassionate treatment. Follows established safety practices and reports to Chief as promptly as possible to unsafe conditions, unsafe practices or any occupational illness or injury sustained. Adheres to all safety and health standards, regulations, work practices and uses proper protective equipment as required. Works with the Chief, Radiology Service and Other disciplines as necessary to support, contribute to and implement policies, procedures, performance goals, strategic plans and initiatives. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English.
