About the role

Service Stream’s Utilities division is seeking a Leading Hand (Mechanical) to join our Brisbane team on a full-time, permanent basis. The Leading Hand will supervise and support a small team of mechanical fitters and trades in carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on water and wastewater infrastructure. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of treatment and distribution systems while delivering minor works projects as required to maintain critical community services.

Key responsibilities include coordinating maintenance activities, leading high-risk works, overseeing quality assurance, and providing technical and planning support to engineers and operations teams. The Leading Hand will promote safety and continuous HSE improvement, assist with estimating and subcontractor engagement, and foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. The position also supports leadership development through shadowing and higher duties, encourages team ownership and accountability, and mentors’ apprentices while championing Service Stream’s values of safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.

Skills and qualifications

  • Current Drivers Licence. 
  • Experience on wastewater treatment plants and all equipment located within the plant (Desirable)Experience in the Water industry or similar industry  
  • National Licence to perform High Risk work (Desirable) 
  • Trade Certificate in a relevant mechanical discipline
  • Ability to integrate with and cooperate as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to deal with external personal including sub-contractors and clients in a professional and courteous manner
  • Willingness to upskill and undertake additional training for ongoing development
