Summary
The Lead Quality Inspector is responsible for overseeing and executing inspections of transport category aircraft and components in accordance with FAA Part 145 regulations. This role ensures compliance with ensures every aircraft, component, and maintenance procedure complies with all applicable FAA/EASA regulations, OEM specifications, and internal quality-assurance standards as well as customer, and company standards, and leads a team of inspectors in maintaining the highest levels of safety and airworthiness for complex, large-scale aircraft systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform and supervise inspections of widebody aircraft (e.g., Boeing 737, 757,777, 787, Airbus A320) and associated components.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with FAA Part 145, Part 43, and Part 65 regulations, as well as OEM and customer requirements.
- Lead and mentor a team of inspectors, providing guidance on inspection techniques, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
- Review and sign off on maintenance records, work orders, and airworthiness releases.
- Conduct incoming part inspections, and final release inspections
- Coordinate with production, engineering, and customer representatives to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely delivery.
- Support internal and external audits, including FAA, customer, and third-party quality assessments.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the inspection team and quality processes.
- Manage incoming preliminary inspections on aircraft/components in accordance with customer request cards or manufacturer’s manuals.
- Ensure documentation of maintenance performed is as required by FAR’s, Repair Station Manual and Customer’s Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program.
- Oversee inspection personnel during incoming inspections and maintain oversight during aircraft storage and modifications.
- Accomplish final buy-back of maintenance performed.
- Accomplish in-progress inspections including clearance-to-close, torque verifications, dimensional checks, rigs, etc.
- Participate in audits & investigations – Support external audits, root-cause analysis, and accident/incident investigations as required.
- Monitor changes in ADs, service bulletins, and regulatory updates; recommend process improvements to maintain best-in-class quality standards.

Summary of Education, Experience & Certification
High School diploma or equivalent required. F.A.A. Airframe and Powerplant License required. Minimum of 5 years’ heavy aircraft maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Comprehensive knowledge of FAA regulations, including FAR Parts 21, 43, 45, and 145. Previous QC and supervisory experience a plus.
This safety-sensitive position is covered by the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Testing Program. Any applicant selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment drug testing. Persons occupying a "safety-sensitive” position will be subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing. Post-accident, reasonable cause, and return-to-duty tests may also be required based on specific circumstances.
US Citizen Required - this position is located at a facility that requires special access.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate in English (read, write, and verbally communicate).
- Ability to read and interpret documents as well as communicate effectively with other maintenance and support personnel at all levels regarding job related issues.
- Must have knowledge of fundamental maintenance operations and practices and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to operate ground support equipment e.g. power carts, Hi-Reach, etc. as required.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Ability to work outside of core business hours as required.
Physical Requirements
- Able to climb and work on step stools and/or ladders.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally, with help, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Able to reach overhead.
- Able to work in a non-dust-free environment.
- Normal or corrected vision (required to perform exacting tasks).
- Full range of motion with both hands.
- Ability to work in a stooping, kneeling, or standing position and in cramped areas.
- This is a safety sensitive position; FAA / DOT random drug testing is required.
The expected WA salary range for this position is between $61,000.00 - $85,000.00. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, education, location, and other factors permitted by law.
