About the Role
Working with the relevant manufacturing engineers and Operational staff, the LME will be responsible for the development and improvement of existing manufacturing systems, processes, procedures and equipment in a dynamic manufacturing environment. They will need the ability to be able to project manage small to medium sized projects from initiation to completion
They will be responsible for leading a team of Manufacturing Engineers and guide this team to make improvements to meet operational objectives. Along with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager they will ensure the consistent development, training, discipline, and appraisal of this team.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Review current manufacturing processes to identify and action continuous improvement opportunities, implementing best practice standard work onto shop floor, whilst ensuring these encompass safe working practices.
Oversee team to plan, coordinate and implement the most efficient and cost-effective production methods required to manufacture sub and final assemblies.
Establish and implement a containment strategy for manufacturing issues followed by effective root-cause analysis and follow through of agreed corrective actions.
Identify bottlenecks within the manufacturing process and engage best practice lean manufacturing techniques (including JID’s, Problem Solves) to maximise process flow for production requirements.
Manage deliverables for responsibilities in the NPPD process, acting as a representative for production with regards to advice on tooling/fixtures requirements for build, establishing safe work processes, and overseeing the preparation for and manufacturing of prototypes on the production floor.
Lead and participate in projects to deliver process improvements and projects aligned to operational & strategic objectives and roadmaps.
Work with the wider Operations team to ensure best practice setting up and refining manufacturing processes to improve efficiencies, improve safety and meet demand requirements.
Review processes and drive continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility and undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required from time to time to ensure success of projects.
Experience & Qualifications:
Engineering related third level qualification.
Considerable experience of coaching and driving lean principles.
Experience leading, training, developing and motivating teams.
Experience in a busy manufacturing production environment.
Experience leading and participating improvement & strategic projects
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills are all essential, as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to work in an environment that is fluid with constantly changing priorities without losing sight of targets.
Ability to learn quickly, use your initiative and work as part of a team.
Self-motivated and action oriented
Excellent IT Skills, specifically with MS Office, Creo, AutoCAD and Oracle
Knowledge of inventory control, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
Excellent English communication skills, written and spoken
Highest level of integrity
