Compensation

Hourly base pay rate is $24.09 - $36.11/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Key Responsibilities

Conduct expert‑level vehicle inspections, including structural, cosmetic, and mechanical evaluations.

  • Locate, start, move, inspect, and safely return vehicles within the lot or assigned lanes.

  • Verify vehicle identification and enter accurate VIN, mileage, sub‑series, and option details into the inspection system.

  • Inspect and document vehicle equipment, options, operability, and any missing or inoperable items.

  • Perform comprehensive exterior inspections including tires, panels, paintwork, glass, unibody/full frame, and structural components.

  • Conduct interior inspections including seats, dash, electronics, and all installed options.

  • Perform advanced structural assessments per NAAA Structural Damage Policy and Quarter Panel Inspection Standards.

  • Complete and maintain monthly Self‑Application/OJT audits (12 per month) to ensure consistency and compliance.

  • Assist lower‑level inspectors in navigating complex inspections, structural evaluations, and escalating concerns appropriately.

  • Participate in coaching, auditing, and continuous improvement efforts to elevate team accuracy and quality.

  • Support and mentor entry-level and developing inspectors through hands‑on guidance and training.

Training, Certification & Compliance

  • Complete all coursework and requirements in the Inspector Playbook, including: Online learning modules Motivation & Productivity training NAAA Structural Damage Policy & Quarter Panel Inspection Webinar Hands‑on and OJT training Self‑Study and reading assignments Review of all previous level study guides

  • Successfully pass the CP Level 4 Certification Exam.

  • Maintain all certification status requirements and uphold inspection standards at an expert level.

  • Understand that failure to pass ICP testing results in a two‑week waiting period before retesting.

Operational & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Prepare and provide reports or documentation as needed to support inspection quality and operations.

  • Adapt quickly to workflow changes and lane needs to maintain efficiency and support auction demands.

  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of internal policies, CR standards, and client expectations.

  • Support leadership initiatives, quality programs, and lean/continuous improvement processes.

  • Model safety awareness and follow all safety and health procedures; actively participate in Safety Excellence activities.

  • Represent Cox Automotive and Manheim professionally, supporting a positive and consistent client experience.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience & Specialist Knowledge and Skills

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Prior experience as a Manheim Inspector with successful progression through Levels 1–3.

  • Demonstrated mastery of cosmetic, mechanical, and structural inspection standards.

  • Must have passed the Level 4 CP Certification Exam.

  • Strong working knowledge of NAAA Frame/Structure Damage Policy.

  • Previous automotive, mechanical, body, or frame experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong technical aptitude and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with handheld inspection devices and digital documentation.

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

  • Ability to multitask, follow direction, and execute assignments accurately.

  • Familiarity with unibody and full-frame construction required.

  • Physical ability to lift at least 30 lbs., stand for extended periods, kneel, bend, crouch, and navigate around vehicles.

  • Strong near‑vision abilities to identify scratches, dings, paintwork, structural indicators, and interior imperfections.

  • Ability to work in varying lighting and outdoor conditions.

  • Physical and mental ability to perform inspection duties within required timeframes to meet business operational needs.

To be employed in this role, you’ll need to clear a pre-employment drug test. Cox Automotive does not currently administer a pre-employment drug test for marijuana for this position.
