Job Classification:
Technology - Data Analytics & ManagementPrudential’s Technology Application Operations team is building a modern Operations Intelligence capability, turning operational data into decision-ready insights that help teams spot risk earlier, respond faster, and continuously improve reliability. We’re hiring a Lead BI Engineer to build interactive dashboards and the reusable semantic models behind them using Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
This role is ideal for an engineer who loves building clean data models, scalable metrics, and high-performance dashboards, then partnering with operations leaders to turn those products into daily habits. Initial deliveries will focus on operational reporting sourced from enterprise platforms, with additional sources incorporated over time.
As part of engineering's culture, we encourage use of approved AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code, to accelerate implementation, troubleshooting, documentation, and iteration.
Your Team:
You will work within Intelligent Operations. This team drives innovation, automation, and integration across Prudential’s application operations landscape. You will partner with leaders across application operations, service management, and observability to improve transparency and decision-making through trusted metrics and self-service dashboards.
What You Will Do:
• Design and deliver Power BI dashboards that are fast, intuitive, and built for operational decision-making, daily execution, weekly and monthly reviews, and leadership visibility.
• Create clear drill-down paths from “what happened” to “where and why,” so teams can move from insight to action quickly.
Engineer the semantic layer (the product)
• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI semantic models as reusable products: clean relationships, curated fields, well-defined measures, and consistent KPI definitions.
• Apply modern analytics modeling practices (fact/dimension modeling and star-schema-aligned semantic models) to improve performance, usability, and long-term maintainability.
• Build curated reporting datasets in Microsoft Fabric that enable reuse across dashboards and reduce one-off reporting.
Deliver operations intelligence (not just reporting)
• Build insights that help operations teams anticipate risk and detect emerging issues earlier; examples include trend breaks, abnormal spikes, recurring patterns, and leading indicators that warrant attention.
• Expand dashboards over time to correlate operational signals across systems, including service management and observability platforms (metrics, logs, traces), as you assimilate new data sources.
Partner and lead
• Translate ambiguous operational questions into clear metric definitions, scalable models, and shippable dashboard increments.
• Raise the bar on BI engineering practices: maintainable model design, performance tuning, and thoughtful UX patterns.
• Use AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code) to speed up build/test cycles, refactoring, and documentation, while keeping engineering judgment in the loop.
What You’ll Bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data/Analytics, or a related quantitative/technical field (advanced degree a plus).
• 5+ years of professional experience delivering enterprise BI/analytics solutions (Power BI semantic modeling, dashboard development, and data modeling).
• Deep Power BI expertise: semantic modeling, DAX, performance optimization, and dashboard UX.
• Strong SQL and analytics engineering skills; ability to shape curated datasets that support dependable KPIs and drill-down analysis.
• Strong analytics data modeling skills, including dimensional modeling (fact/dimension) and star-schema-aligned semantic models.
• Proven collaboration with stakeholders, clarify requirements, and deliver iterative outcomes that earn adoption.
