BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Responsible for managing phone calls, greeting and directing the public, obtaining and entering or activating provider lab orders in the EHR and performing administrative tasks to support the phlebotomy supervisor.

Minimum Education: High School/GED Required. Healthcare experience preferred.
License/Certification Required: No
Minimum Work Experience: Two years of related experience preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answer, transfer and direct all incoming calls; Greet, direct and assist the public; Interact in a courteous manner and is responsive to the needs of the public, physicians, staff, patients, and families.
- Obtain and accurately enter/activate provider lab orders in the EHR. Ensure the accuracy of patient orders and demographic information. Audit charts and assist with quality assurance tasks. Effectively train new hires responsible for the reception area during weekends, after hours, or in the absence of the receptionist.
- Maintain charts for special circumstances, including but not limited to neonatal bilirubin orders, problem charts requiring patient/provider notification, and returning patient charts. Schedule specialized lab procedures as required.
- Maintain a professional, considerate, caring, and positive attitude toward patients, families, staff, physicians, and the public.
- Communicate clearly with phlebotomists, providers, and external offices about order issues or test clarifications. Coordinate with the lab and other areas regarding specimen collection.
- Assist phlebotomists during difficult draws or when patient distraction/support is needed. Handle and label specimens with proper identification, collection date, and time, and maintain daily temperature logs.
- Fax results and documentation to providers and departments as requested.
- Maintain professional composure and confidence during stressful situations. Maintain confidentiality of all staff, families, and patients at all times.
- Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.
- Maintain working area in an organized and neat manner to ensure efficient workflow within the area. Notify supervisor of office/equipment needs.
- Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.

- Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
