Role Description
- The IT Application Owner (ITAO) has sound IT risk management skills. They follow one of a number of possible service delivery approaches, acknowledge interference with the IT application’s life cycle and assist with incorporating the adopted approach into best practice.
- The ITAO is aware of the gap in the current infrastructure solutions and where industry innovations are along the maturity lifecycle. They work with application stakeholders to improve the infrastructure, ensuring compliance with the technical roadmap.
- The ITAO has a sound knowledge of development methodologies and the IT policies necessary to perform effectively in the organisation, aligned to the bank’s appetite for risk.
- The ITAO acts to improve safety and security of the application, compliance with regulations, policies and standards, enhance operational readiness, and ease maintenance of the environment for delivering change into production.
- The ITAO supports the bank’s audit function in the remediation of audit points and self-identified issues in order to reduce risk. The ITAO is responsible for producing and maintaining accurate documentation on compliance with methodologies, IT policies and IT security requirements. The ITAO interacts with and influences colleagues on the governance of IT platform reliability and resilience.

Your key responsibilities
- Strategy, Architecture & Governance - Own application alignment with enterprise IT strategy, architecture standards, and governance obligations. Review current and proposed solutions for compliance with regulatory, contractual, security, and internal policy requirements, providing specialist guidance to address gaps and ensure architectural consistency across the application lifecycle.
- Security, Risk & Continuity Management - Accountable for application security, risk assessment, and resilience. Identify, assess, and mitigate information security risks, support vulnerability and incident investigations, and ensure continuity, disaster recovery, and contingency plans are designed, tested, documented, and maintained for critical business services.
- Change, Requirements & Transformation - Own requirements definition and controlled change. Ensure requirements are clearly captured, baselined, and traceable, and that authorised changes are assessed for risk, impact, and compliance, supporting transformation while protecting service integrity and aligning with formal change management processes.
- Service Delivery, Availability & Operations - Ensure applications meet agreed service levels for availability, performance, reliability, and recoverability. Oversee service acceptance, configuration, asset, incident, problem, and application support processes, ensuring operational readiness, effective recovery, trend analysis, and continuous service improvement.
- Configuration, Quality & Compliance Assurance - Ensure accurate configuration and asset records, controlled changes, and adherence to identification standards. Support audits, quality assurance, and conformance reviews by maintaining evidence, addressing non‑compliance, and ensuring testing, controls, and documentation meet enterprise standards.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Knowledge Management - Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders. Manage relationships, communicate risks and decisions, support knowledge management practices, and ensure application knowledge, documentation, and usage insights are captured, maintained, and shared to enable informed decision‑making across domains.
Your skills and experience
- Proven IT Application Ownership experience Demonstrated experience acting as an accountable ITAO for enterprise applications, with responsibility spanning build, run, change, and risk in a regulated environment.
- Hands‑on ownership of Google Cloud applications Experience owning applications deployed on Google Cloud Platform, including understanding of cloud services, deployment models, security controls, resilience patterns, and cost considerations.
- Strong technical depth in data‑centric applications Solid understanding of applications built on relational (e.g., Postgres, BigQuery) and NoSQL databases, and how cloud‑based applications interact with data pipelines and analytics platforms.
- Operational and service management maturity Experience overseeing availability, incident, problem, configuration, and change management processes for production applications, with a focus on stability, recoverability, and continuous improvement.
- Risk, security, and audit awareness Proven ability to operate within enterprise IT risk, security, and compliance frameworks, including access controls, vulnerability management, audit support, and regulatory obligations.
- Global stakeholder management capability Experience working within a global delivery model, influencing cross‑functional teams, communicating risk and trade‑offs clearly, and driving alignment across technology and business stakeholders.
