Investment Analyst, Capital Markets - Fundamental Equities

The Opportunity

The Investment Analyst will support the Consumer Pod in all aspects of the investment process including financial modeling, maintenance of databases, screening of ideas, due diligence, and monitoring of existing and potential investments.

Who you’ll work with

Reporting to the Director (Consumer), the Investment Analyst will gain valuable insight into formulating and executing investment theses, develop a deep understanding of the Consumer Discretionary and Staples sectors, and learn about portfolio management and risk management practices from a team of seasoned investment professionals.

What you’ll do

Working with the senior investment professionals, you will be responsible for:

  • Building financial models and forecasts for various companies, using different valuation approaches that are common at OTPP
  • Helping with sector research and reports and quarterly results updates
  • Writing update notes on companies where news, developments or results warrant
  • Attending management meetings along with a team member and writing notes
  • Establishing working relationships with other Sector Pods in Fundamental Equities and colleagues in Capital Markets
  • Occasional travel for industry conferences and management meetings

What you’ll need

  • Up to 1 year of related work experience and/or internships, ideally in equity research, investment banking, or corporate business development
  • An undergraduate Business degree with enrolment in the CFA program or equivalent
  • Demonstrated interest in financial markets, particularly equities
  • Advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills are a requirement
  • Experience building three-statement models and developing forecasts and valuations
  • Strong work ethic with an ability to balance priorities, work independently, and meet tight timelines with limited supervision
  • High commitment to being a team player with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Consumer sector-related experience is an asset but not required
  • Experience using Bloomberg is an asset but not required

What we’re offering

Pay-for-performance with base salary and annual incentive based on individual and enterprise performance. The Base salary for this level is $115,000 in Year 1 and $125,000 in Year 2. Individual compensation and placement of this role in the range is based on different factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, demonstrated competencies, and internal equity as they relate to the role.
