As a Team Lead, you will support our Fort St. John office as part of our Assessment, Remediation, Reclamation and Monitoring (ARRM) team. The successful applicant will be office and field-based, with some field-based work as well, and be involved in a broad range of projects with responsibilities as follows:

Strategy 

  • Supporting their service line leadership group by contributing to the execution of a service line strategy that is aligned with Matrix’s overall strategy
  • Gain exposure to people and project-related leadership roles and decision making to expand their career opportunities

 

Operations 

  • Lead their team members to meet utilization goals by maintaining an appropriate project scheduling tool with visibility across other teams in same service.
  • Seek guidance from their Service Director regarding near-term business priorities for resourcing and scheduling
  • Review the nonbill portion of weekly timesheets for all of their team members
  • Review vacation requests for their team members and manage their workforce to meet business needs
  • Facilitate/lead team meetings to foster a team environment, as well as ensuring the effective communication of operational/corporate initiatives and priorities.
  • Support the Operational Director in the roll out, and compliance to, operational and corporate initiatives within the Service Line (e.g. new system or policy implementation)

People 

  • Supervising intermediate and junior level staff within their service area.  
  • Develop and maintain strong/trusted relationships with their team members through regular 1:1 interactions
  • Provide input and recommendations to the service line’s Operations Director for performance management decisions including promotion, compensation, compliance, and discipline and provide clear and regular feedback to direct reports
  • Identify and understand career goals for their team members and seek out project opportunities for these people to grow and develop their careers
  • In collaboration with other Team Leads within the service, organize and execute team building events to foster a team environment throughout Service.

Growth 

  • Support hiring and onboarding activities for new intermediate and junior level staff within their team in collaboration with the Operations Director for their service line
  • This will be a term position. The Team Lead will have the opportunity to assess their position with their Service Director and the Operations Director for their service line annually and may continue in the role with mutual agreement.

 

What Are We Looking For:

  • Technical diploma or degree in environmental science, geology, engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years’ previous consulting experience
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach and lead a team; ability to quickly gain the trust and confidence of team members and leaders
  • Solution oriented mindset with the ability to identify issues, investigate and recommend resolutions
  • Possess strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to quickly gain the trust and confidence of team members, leaders and others within the organization across different locations
  • Strong time management skills; able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment with the ability to prioritize
  • A flexible and highly accountable individual with the desire to roll up their sleeves when necessary and an ability to keep an eye on the big picture

This is a permanent, full-time, position with an hourly rate range of $30.00 to $53.00, starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location.
