Job Description:

The Louisiana State University (LSU) College of Science and the Department of Physics and Astronomy seek to hire an Instructor to teach undergraduate classes in algebra-based or calculus-based physics and/or astronomy. Some courses may be delivered online Courses in physical science or undergraduate majors courses may also be taught. We anticipate hiring  as soon as the Summer 2026 semester. 

Responsibilities: Full-time positions normally teach four courses per semester for a total of eight courses per academic year.  However, one course may be replaced with equivalent number of hours of department service if approved by the department.   While the primary teaching duties will be primarily introductory algebra-based physics or calculus-based physics and/or astronomy classes, an instructor may also teach other introductory classes in physical science.  On occasion, this instructor may teach upper-level undergraduate majors courses in physics or astronomy if the applicant holds a Ph.D.  in physics or astronomy. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to creating and maintaining course syllabi's, meeting with classes during assigned times, delivering the course curriculum, developing and grading assignments, holds office hours, reporting  grades, and assessing student learning outcomes. Other responsibilities include participation in departmental meetings, student support services, mentoring, and participation in departmental curriculum discussions. Qualifications: Master's in astronomy, physics or a closely related field.

Preferred qualifications: PhD in astronomy, physics or closely related field. Previous on-line teaching experience. Ability to deliver classes in various modalities (in-person, online, and hybrid).
