The Opportunity
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a skilled and safety-focused HVAC Technician to join our Facilities Management team on the Daytona Beach Campus. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient, reliable, and safe operation of campus-wide heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related mechanical systems.
The HVAC Technician will service and maintain a wide range of residential and commercial HVAC equipment, including refrigeration systems, computerized energy management systems, chilled water systems, boilers, air compressors, and associated control systems. This role is essential to maintaining a safe and comfortable learning and working environment for students, faculty, and staff.

The position offers the opportunity to work with complex mechanical systems while supporting the infrastructure of a leading aerospace university.
Install, repair, and maintain residential and commercial heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
Service computerized energy management systems and associated complex control systems.
Maintain and repair food service equipment, including gas cooking equipment (propane and natural gas).
Service and maintain hot water and steam boilers, ice storage systems, large commercial chilled water systems, air compressors, and water pumps.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on HVAC and related mechanical equipment.
Monitor and maintain cooling tower chemical levels, chemical pumps, and associated safety equipment.
Maintain inventory of assigned tools, parts, equipment, and cooling tower chemicals.
Ensure safe operation of all HVAC equipment and maintain a safe working environment around mechanical systems.
Read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams; make necessary calculations and maintain accurate service records.
Follow installation and service direction provided by the Foreman or Supervisor.
Comply with all applicable local and state laws and safety regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Qualifications:
Education
Completion of a formal HVAC diploma, certificate, or degree program (6–18 months post-high school) OR
At least two (2) years of HVAC technical schooling OR
Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance of heating, air conditioning, and related equipment.
HVAC schooling may be considered in lieu of work experience.
Licenses & Certifications
Universal Refrigerant Recovery License (EPA-approved testing agency).
Valid Florida Driver’s License (must be maintained).
Experience
1–3 years of mechanical/maintenance experience in HVAC or related field.
Required Skills & Abilities
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Ability to service gas equipment (propane and natural gas).
Ability to read blueprints, perform calculations, and maintain accurate records.
Knowledge of local and state laws related to HVAC systems.
Ability to lift and/or carry HVAC equipment (less than 25 lbs regularly) and push/pull equipment using a hand cart.
Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding and work in overhead areas.
Ability to operate power tools safely with proper eye-hand coordination.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to recognize hazards associated with electrical systems, propane, natural gas, and power tools and take appropriate safety precautions.
Normal vision, hearing, and physical dexterity required.
