Role Purpose

As senior member of the JLL EMEA HSSE team, this individual will be accountable for providing HSSE expertise for the UK&I Workplace Management Business and for devising and delivering a strategy to deliver our common goals. The successful candidate will be capable of meeting consistent goals set by the EMEA HSSE Lead, the Global HSSE function and the UK&I Workplace Management Leadership. Goals will be continuously stretched in pursuit of our safety and sustainability ambitions.

As Director of the HSSE team the individual will be responsible for deploying and supporting the JLL health, safety and environmental risk management strategy and supporting the HSSE professionals in the UK&I Workplace Management HSSE team. The role will be dedicated to managing HSSE matters for UK&I Workplace Management and UK&I Workplace Management client accounts.

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of engineering service direct delivery as an integral part of the overall solution. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving HSSE standards and practices within self-delivery teams across Engineering Services, Project Services, Soft Services, Cooling Tech, and H&K operations.

The main function will be to:

  • Enable the UK&I Workplace Management business to comply with JLL, cultural, client and statutory requirements in its operations across all service lines.
  • Review the structure and purpose of the UK&I Workplace Management HSSE function and devise and deliver short and long-term strategies to enhance HSSE performance at all levels in the business
  • Lead and mentor a team of HSSE professional to maximise performance and to ensure the personal and professional development of the team
  • Demonstrate leadership in health, safety and environmental issues, ensuring that the JLL HSSE Global Standards are applied across areas of responsibility
  • Ensure alignment and compliance with HSSE policies and practice and statutory requirements across self-delivery teams
  • Facilitate the delivery and management of HSSE, by supporting UK&I Workplace Management staff to achieve compliance and performance reporting against all JLL, UK&I Workplace Management & client-set HSSE metrics and KPI's
  • Support a programme for training, audit, measurement and reporting HSSE performance against agreed standards
  • Support new business pursuits, transition of new accounts and expansion of existing accounts
  • Promote a positive, proactive HSSE culture and to influence stakeholders
  • Implement practical risk management strategies for all business units and, more specifically, drive change significant improvement in vehicle safety
  • Drive consistent HSSE standards and practices within self-delivery teams across Engineering Services, Project Services, Soft Services, Cooling Tech, and H&K
  • Ensure full understanding and oversight of engineering service direct delivery operations and associated HSSE risks

What this job involves

Performance

  • Coordinate the implementation of HSSE monitoring procedures that ensure the timely internal management reporting of performance
  • Meet operational objectives as specified by the relevant business leaders
  • Have a pragmatic and cost-effective approach to HSSE management
  • Identify conclusions or approaches to problems including strengths and weaknesses of existing systems and alternative solutions
  • Drive consistent improvements in UK&I Workplace Management’s HSSE culture and, more specifically, in all aspects of vehicle safety/safe driving
  • Oversee HSSE performance across Engineering Services, Project Services, Soft Services, Cooling Tech, and H&K self-delivery operations
  • Ensure engineering service direct delivery teams maintain the highest HSSE standards as part of the overall service solution

Leadership

  • Review the structure and purpose of the UK&I Workplace Management HSSE function and devise and deliver short and long-term strategies to enhance HSSE performance at all levels in the business
  • Manage HSSE team members operating within the region, both direct reporting, matrix reporting relationships
  • Maintain compliance with ISO14001 & ISO45001 Standards
  • Ensure the delivery of an HSSE training programme based on the JLL HSSE training model, which is compliant with all local requirements in the region
  • Manage the relationships between accounts, business functions and employees who operate within the region
  • Provide guidance and advice on health and safety risk management at all levels in the assigned region
  • Mentor and develop HSSE capabilities within engineering service direct delivery teams

Standards

  • Ensure UK&I Workplace Management Operations meet JLL Global HSSE Standards and EMEA HSSE Minimum Standards across all service lines
  • Keep abreast of legislation advice and to alert the UK&I Workplace Management/JLL business to such changes that will impact on the business
  • As directed, produce and update policy proposals and procedural amendments reflecting changes in legislation, best practice or advice
  • Assist with investigations into specific incidents or accidents with a health & safety and/or environmental consequence and ensure appropriate records are maintained
  • Support work teams, to secure operational HSSE compliance, including providing support for HSSE audits and inspections as required
  • Develop and implement HSSE standards specific to Engineering Services, Project Services, Soft Services, Cooling Tech, and H&K operations
  • Ensure self-delivery teams consistently apply JLL HSSE standards in engineering service delivery

  • A strong focus on the delivery of objectives, including an ability to provide creative and innovative solutions based on a sound understanding of business requirements
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to deal with all people at all organisational levels, internally and externally
  • Ability to work unsupervised and take positive action to resolve issues on own initiative
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and show foresight in relation to existing and potential problems
  • Computer literate with a knowledge of commonly used software programmes, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to research and produce management information and specialist reports making recommendations as appropriate
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to balance competing demands and to meet deadlines
  • Strong business acumen
  • Ability to identify trends and identify the root causes of any problems
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering service direct delivery as part of the overall service solution
  • Experience driving HSSE standards and practices within self-delivery teams

Essential Criteria:

  • Recognised HSSE professional qualifications and professional memberships appropriate for the region
  • Proven history of implementation of environmental, health and safety systems and processes
  • Relevant HSSE experience in Engineering Services environment
  • Must be willing and able to travel as deemed necessary to fulfil the role
  • Previous experience of working at a national/regional level and managing multi-cultural teams
  • Demonstrated ability to implement HSSE standards within self-delivery operational teams

Desirable Criteria:

  • Internal or External Auditor Qualifications
  • Membership of a local environmental management professional body
  • Experience across multiple service lines
  • Background in technical engineering services delivery
