What we want 

The Bush School of Government and Public Service is seeking a Graduate Academic Advisor I, who under general supervision, provides academic advising for graduate students on program requirements and academic processes, helping them set goals and referring students to university resources that can assist in meeting their needs or solving problems. Updates and maintains student records. Travels occasionally and recruits new students to apply to Bush School Online graduate programs. Assists with program coordination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Graduate Advising and Graduate Student Support - Collaborate with students to establish realistic goals, communicate important dates and deadlines, and refer students to university resources that can assist in meeting their needs or solving problems. Advise graduate certificate students and review certificate program plans. Pre-register and register students for their chosen courses. Provide information about add/drops, Q drops/withdrawals, ombuds issues, professional concerns, financial aid, student services, academic schedules, course schedules, course planning and selections, and career and educational goals.  Maintain accurate documentation of student progress to certificate completion using Salesforce. Assist students who wish to apply for re-admission.

  • Recruiting - Guide prospective students through the application process. Conduct a high quantity of phone calls to present and distribute information to prospective students. Respond to phone and web-generated inquiries from students and prospective students. Travels to and attends recruiting events. Perform general office and customer service work. Maintain records of student and prospective student contacts. Use Salesforce to review prospect records, log interactions, etc.

  • Event and Faculty Support - Assist the Graduate Program Coordinator with Virtual Information Sessions for prospective students. Assist with hosting events for current graduate students (such as residency weeks, graduation receptions, certificate completion ceremony, etc.). Assist Bush School faculty and staff on university processes and policies for graduate programs.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • No experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to support event or activity coordination.

  • Proficiency in standard office software and technology.

  • Ability to work with confidential information.

  • Ability to think critically.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of customer service experience.

  • Experience in recruiting graduate, non-degree-seeking, and distance education students.

  • Sales experience.

  • Recruiting experience at conferences, symposiums, graduate and professional school fairs, career fairs, and other related events.

  • Valid class “C” vehicle operator’s license.

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce customer relationship management (CRM) platform, spreadsheets, word processing, Banner 9, and Howdy.

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
