Reporting to the VP & GM Hach APAC, the role of General Manager – Hach India s responsible for the overall P&L of our India Business and the running of our India operation including Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain and Customer Support. Implement marketing strategies and sales initiatives. Sets objectives, targets and measures to achieve the company’s forecasted sales and production. Analyzes commercial market conditions for the determination of potential sales of a product or service. Interprets customer trends and market insights into actionable strategies and tactics. May represent the company at trade shows, industry and marketing-related conferences and corporate events.
This position is part of the India Commercial Organization located in Bangalore and will be on hybrid work model.
In this role, a typical day will look like:
A. Proven Leadership & Strategic Experience
- Significant experience in general management, P&L leadership, business strategy, and execution in a regional/country context.
- Demonstrated track record of developing and executing business growth plans and driving operational excellence in a competitive B2B or industrial environment.
B. Strong Commercial Acumen
- Deep experience in sales, marketing, channel management, and customer engagement — particularly in instrumentation, analytical solutions, industrial products, or technical B2B markets.
- Ability to lead revenue growth, develop pricing/channel strategies, and manage budgets.
C. People & Organization Leadership
- Proven capability to build, develop, and retain high-performing teams; strong skills in coaching, performance management, and talent development.
- Experience working with cross-functional global teams and adapting corporate practices locally.
D. Operational & Financial Management
- Responsibility for P&L ownership, forecasting, cost management, and operational processes.
- Familiarity with implementing systems and controls to drive efficiency and compliance.
E. Relevant Industry & Market Knowledge
- Strong understanding of the water quality, analytical instrumentation, or environmental technology sectors (or closely related industries) is usually preferred.
- Experience dealing with key stakeholders such as government bodies, industrial customers, and distribution networks.
F. Communication & Cultural Fit
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Cultural agility to operate effectively across diverse markets and with global leadership teams.
To excel in this role, following are the requirements of the job:
A. Experience:
- A minimum of 18 years in handling various commercial roles such as Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Pricing, etc. Additionally, candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in dealer management, sales management, or general management positions.
B. Education:
- Typically, a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science, Business, or related field.
- A Master’s degree or advanced management qualification is preferred (though not mandatory) from a reputed institute.
C. Key Responsibilities:
- Drive business decisions related to product, pricing, and margin expenses.
- Exhibit strong experience in sales, marketing, channel management, and customer engagement.
- Develop and lead a sales team, translating market strategies into executable sales plans.
D. Travel:
- This position necessitates extensive travel within the country, up to 50% of the total time, and regionally as per business needs.
E. Skills and Attributes:
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills to foster a team environment and achieve results.
- Possess robust business acumen, high motivation, and a proactive energy trend.
- Maintain high integrity and honesty, with a creative and innovative mindset.
