Media Manager / Team Lead (Senior)

Regional Media & Narrative Monitoring

Mission / Purpose

Lead and support regional media relations and media intelligence activities by maintaining key media contacts, monitoring regional narratives, and contributing to the planning and execution of communication activities linked to regional topics and events.

Ideally, the freelancer would be based in the Bonn area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and regularly update regionally relevant media contact lists and distribution lists (journalists and key multipliers) across multiple German federal states, including NRW, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, and Saarland.
  • Conduct ongoing screening and review of regional media outlets to identify relevant stories, narratives, and opportunities for communication products.
  • Drive proactive thematic planning and propose a set of communication topics and events per year; participate in regular planning meetings.
  • Support press enquiries, contribute to press materials, and coordinate or guide communication actions in a team lead or senior advisory capacity.
  • Produce concise written summaries on the regional press situation and monitor regional policy developments with relevance at European level.

Deliverables / Outputs (examples)

  • Updated media contact lists, narrative and media coverage scans, press situation briefs, and inputs for thematic or event-related planning.

Work Setup

  • Total of 45 working days.

Must-Have Requirements

  • Native or mother-tongue level German writing and speaking skills, particularly for media relations and press communication.
  • Strong professional English (minimum C1 level).
  • Proven experience with regional media relations, media monitoring, and institutional or public-sector communication.
