Job Summary

To translate executive vision into executable strategy, ensuring that all four Fraud Strategy pillars (Payments, Lending, Data Analytics, Internal Fraud and Risk & Governance) operate under a unified framework with consistent standards, governance, and progress tracking. The role acts as the "orchestration layer" between leadership and the Heads of Fraud Strategy — ensuring alignment, prioritization, and performance monitoring for effective prevention, detection, and response to internal fraud threats while fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct across business banking operations ensuring compliance, aligning with regulatory requirements and organizational risk appetite.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities 

Strategy & Framework Development 

  • Develop and implement the Internal Fraud Risk Strategy specific to Business Banking, aligned to the group’s overall Fraud and Financial Crime Framework. 

  • Define and maintain policies, standards, and procedures for identifying, preventing, and responding to insider fraud. 

  • Establish internal fraud risk appetite metrics and monitor performance against set thresholds. 

  • Drive strategic initiatives to enhance the maturity of internal fraud controls and detection capabilities. 

 

Risk Identification & Assessment 

  • Conduct internal fraud risk assessments across business banking segments (e.g., relationship management, credit operations, payments, merchant services). 

  • Identify process vulnerabilities and control weaknesses that could facilitate internal or collusive fraud. 

  • Monitor emerging internal fraud typologies, behavioural indicators, and control gaps. 

  • Maintain an up-to-date internal fraud risk register and ensure timely risk mitigation actions. 

Fraud Detection & Analytics 

  • Partner with data analytics, HC and compliance teams to develop tools and indicators that detect unusual employee behaviour or potential insider collusion. 

  • Leverage data-driven insights from access logs, transaction anomalies, and employee performance patterns to identify risks. 

  • Support the enhancement of internal fraud monitoring systems and reporting dashboards. 

 

 Incident Management & Investigations 

  • Provide strategic support and oversight for investigations into internal fraud incidents in collaboration with Fraud Investigations, HC, and Legal. 

  • Ensure consistent incident categorisation, root cause analysis, and lessons learned documentation. 

  • Drive remediation of identified control weaknesses and track closure of corrective actions. 

 

Governance & Reporting 

  • Represent internal fraud risk matters in business and fraud governance committees. 

  • Prepare and deliver management reports, dashboards, and insights on internal fraud trends, exposures, and emerging risks. 

  • Support regulatory reporting and audit requirements as needed. 

  • Drive awareness and training campaigns to strengthen fraud risk culture among staff. 

 

Stakeholder Collaboration 

  • Partner with business units to embed fraud risk awareness and controls into daily operations.  

  • Facilitate training and awareness programs for staff on internal fraud risks and ethical conduct.  

Preferred Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Forensic Accounting, Internal Audit, or related field (NQF Level 6 or higher). 

  • CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) advantageous 

Preferred Experience 

  • 7–10 years’ experience in Fraud Risk Management, Internal Audit, or Financial Crime Risk, with at least 3 years in a management or strategy role. 

  • Advanced knowledge of internal fraud risk principles and control frameworks. 

  • Strong analytical, communication, and influencing skills.  

  • Familiarity with data analytics and fraud detection technologies. 

  • Solid knowledge of regulatory requirements related to conduct, ethics, and financial crime. 

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver strategic outcomes.  

  • Proficiency in fraud detection systems and data analytics tools. 

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Strategic thinking - ability to design and implement an internal fraud strategy aligned to business objectives. 

  • Analytical rigor - skilled in identifying patterns, anomalies, and systemic weaknesses. 

  • Investigation & problem-solving - able to lead complex investigations to resolution. 

  • Influence & communication - strong ability to articulate risk issues and mitigation strategies to senior management. 

  • Integrity & ethics - upholds confidentiality, ethical behaviour, and fairness in all activities. 

  • Continuous improvement mindset: Advocates for process optimization and fraud prevention innovation. 

Education

Bachelor's Degree: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
