Financial Accountant - Year End Support, Group Finance (6 Month MTC)

Sydney CBD, NSW Full time

Challenger Limited is an ASX-listed investment management firm managing $128.2 billion in assets (as at 31 December 2025). Life with us is fast moving and always exciting. Together we’re driving to deliver our vision to provide our customers with financial security for a better retirement.

We achieve this goal by providing a work environment where people from diverse backgrounds, with a range of skills and experiences can contribute and succeed.

Join us as a Financial Accountant – Group Finance Year-End Support (6 Month Contract)

  • Play a key role in critical year-end activities and high-impact Group financial reporting projects within a dynamic, ASX-listed financial services business.

  • Work closely with the Group Financial Control team and key stakeholders across the Group to deliver accurate, timely and well-governed outcomes.

  • We work flexibly from our Sydney CBD office, typically balancing three days in the office with two days from home.

  • This is an ideal opportunity for a proactive financial accountant looking to build their listed reporting experience in a highly collaborative Group Finance team.

About the role

This is a hands‑on Financial Accountant role, where you’ll contribute directly to critical month‑end close and annual reporting processes. You will provide timely, accurate and complete financial information that feeds into reports for our senior leaders and investors. You’ll maintain strong financial controls and act as a proactive business partner.

In addition to the above, your work will include:

  • Preparing and posting journals

  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations

  • Monitoring group intercompany balances

  • Owning the end-to end accounting processes for some corporate entities, including preparation of stand-alone annual financial reports and related Board papers for Challenger subsidiaries, along with presenting them to internal Boards.

  • Contribute to the preparation of the Group annual financial report and other ASX-listed financial reporting requirements.

  • Compile audit support and liaise with external auditors and internal staff to resolve queries.

  • Providing ad hoc accounting support to business partners as needed.

The skills and experience you’ll need

You’ll be CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent), with some post‑qualification experience in audit or commercial accounting, and hands‑on exposure to month‑end close, reconciliations, year‑end and statutory reporting

You'll be a self-starter with a growth mindset—you can work independently and meet deadlines with efficiency and ease. You embrace challenges and want to learn new things.

Ideally, you’ll also have experience within a financial services or ASX-listed environment as well as:

  • Working knowledge of AASB and IFRS accounting standard

  • Experience preparing or auditing annual financial reports (financial statements and notes)

  • Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc.) and familiarity with Workday, Workiva or similar systems.

  • Exposure to consolidation accounting, intercompany transactions, and eliminations in a multi-entity environment.

  • Clear communication skills—able to effectively communicate with your peers and senior members of staff when discussing both financial and non-financial topics

  • A bias for action and collaboration across the business.
