The Role
This role sits within the Financial Reporting and Control team and is primarily responsible for the production and reporting of legal entity and business unit management accounts for Hiscox Insurance Company Limited (HIC).
Reporting to the HIC Financial Controller, the Financial Accountant will work closely with a highly motivated finance team and interact regularly with stakeholders across the UK Finance function, as well as external auditors. The role requires strong technical accounting capability, attention to detail, and the confidence to engage with senior management when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial accounts for the UK insurance company and UK business units, prepared under IFRS and in compliance with regulatory and accounting standards.
- Contribute to the production of management accounts and statutory reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines.
- Actively participate in external audits, including preparing audit deliverables, responding to auditor queries, and supporting the resolution of audit findings.
- Support the development, documentation, and improvement of financial processes, procedures, and internal controls to strengthen the overall control framework.
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of systems and reporting processes, supporting system enhancements where required.
- Assist with ad‑hoc financial analysis, reporting, and projects as needed.
- Provide cover and support to colleagues within the team during peak periods or absences.

Professional Experience
- Degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in financial accounting, ideally within the insurance sector and/or a multinational environment.
- Experience in internal and external financial reporting, including management accounts and statutory accounts.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word.
- Experience working in a professional, high‑quality corporate environment.
Nice‑to‑Haves
- Insurance industry experience, ideally with exposure to IFRS 17.
- Experience working with Oracle Cloud financial modules.
- Exposure to data visualisation and reporting tools, such as Power BI.
Contract context: This role is a temporary position to cover long‑term sick leave, with an expected duration of approximately 12 months.
