About us 

The goal of Damen Song Cam is to develop, design and construct a portfolio of tugboats, and high-speed crafts in the most effective and efficient manner. Primarily based on standardized & smart-customized designs. Damen Services South East Asia hub is responsible for Region and commercially performing a wide range of service activities, including warranty, service, repair and maintenance work on delivered ships and installations/vessels during (new) construction and the delivery of components. The sale of parts, the provision of information and technical training and the sale of equipment for ships also fall under the “services‟ work area.

The role 

Performance of warranty, service and repair works, commissioning, training for ships and ship installation, in such a way that optimally functioning ships are achieved.

Key accountabilities 

As a Field Service Engineer your tasks are the following: 

Work installations:

  • Troubleshooting and performing maintenance, renovation and assembly work in the mechanical, electrical and process engineering fields on all common installations on (Damen) ships.
  • Solving malfunctions/causes of malfunctions, using test and measuring equipment
  • Assessing the nature and extent and determining whether immediate repair is possible/desirable, carrying out (emergency) repairs
  • Executing maintenance-, renovation- and assembly work, disassembling/assembling, replacing and adjusting (parts of) installations
  • Recording of damages and/or work to be done in order to make offers
  • Discussing details with the office staffs, local shipyards, captain and discussing work to be done

Support in business:

  • Supporting local shipyards in commissioning of ships.
  • Is responsible for warranty, technical supports, repairs and maintenance.
  • Preliminary discussions of the commissioning with the (local) management 
  • Commissioning of installations, operating installations during sea trials, completion of test programs, consulting with inspection and government authorities
  • Performing various inspection tasks on the ships and installations, identifying and resolving uncertainties and problems, consulting with central engineering, local partners, inside sales, etc.
  • Joining delivery trips of Damen Shipyards built ships to their destination, solving occurring problems and particularities on installations
  • Reporting the findings to (local) management and releasing installations

Training third parties:

  • Instructing/training third parties on the operation, use and maintenance of ships.
  • Providing training or refresher courses for customers working with certain equipment

Maintenance records/reports:

  • Performance of administrative tasks and preparation of (project) reports.
  • Taking care of the administration with regard to own projects (hours, use of materials, nature of work, expenses, extra hours), filling in logbooks, determining costs to be passed on
  • Taking care of project reports and giving input for (structural) product improvement

Availability of and enforced rules:

  • Willing to travel to the required locations for service activities
  • Compliance with company and work regulations
  • Keeping the workplace clean and orderly
  • Oversee and carry out compliance with HSEQ rules and in safety regulations (including legal obligations).

Skills & experience 

To be successful in this role you bring: 

Education:

  • Completed education in mechanical engineering, shipbuilding or electrical engineering
  • Valid sailing license between 1,500 kW and 6,000 kW. Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical engineering, diesel engines (technical) English spoken and written, supplemented by fluency in another modern language, executive level leadership.
  • Completed marine engineering course, naval architecture or specialty studies on electrical and automation, electronics, telecommunication, etc.
  • Advanced level of computer technology, Internet and network systems.
  • Proficient spoken and written English skills

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years Chief engineer experiences
  • Sailing experience or working on ships
