Essential Duties:
- Government Affairs and Public Policy Intern (Intern) will report to and support the company's General Counsel, Director, Legal and External and Government Affairs (Director) in engaging with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators, and third parties in the discussions and formation of public policy applicable to and impacting the Automotive Industry and Nissan Canada specifically. Working closely with members of the Nissan Canada Legal Department, and Automotive industry associations, the Intern seeks to identify key policy issues, understand to others' views and opinions, and distill and share the company's perspective on those issues with external stakeholders.
- The Intern will be part of the Nissan Canada's Legal and External and Government Affairs Department which is part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions.
- The Intern will combine resourcefulness, creativity, and intellectual aptitude along with highly developed organizational skills to manage various research projects and initiatives. In this role, you will engage in written advocacy for Nissan Canada with various levels of government. - The Intern will support the Director who represents Nissan Canada externally at all levels with government, regulators, and third parties. The Intern assist the Director in determining and managing
- Nissan Canada's key policy campaigns in-country and assist in coordinating with cross-functional peers locally and with colleagues across Nissan's global External and Government Affairs organization.
- The Intern must have strong organizational and planning skills and have a keen focus on getting things done.

A Day in the Life:
- Attend and participate Industry meetings and report status and update to NCI's Director of External and Government Affairs.
- Track proposed public policy and regulatory changes and create presentations for reporting.
- Assist in planning, researching, organizing, coordinating, and implementing government relations, Legislative/Regulatory and media communications efforts to advance Industry interests.
- Assist in research projects, evaluation of alternatives, make sound recommendations, and prepare effective executive briefing notes and reports intended for C-Suite level executives.
- Assist in identifying and then creating a network of trade associations, industry partners, and others to support Nissan Canada's policy objectives.
- Assist in the development of public policy campaigns across the full range of policy areas that impact Nissan Canada.
- Support Nissan Canada's Director, External and Government Affairs in representing Nissan Canada externally at all levels of policymaking including with the Government of Canada.
Who We’re Looking for:
- Advocacy and presentation skills, including advanced knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft Office's Power Point Excel software for the creation of slides and briefing notes.
- Strong knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislative processes and structures and how to track legislative changes and proposals.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, follow direction with creativity, exhibit resourcefulness in approaching challenges and finding answers, navigate complex organizations, dissect complex issues (breaking them down into components but capturing all related elements that may not be obvious).
- The Intern must have strong organizational and planning skills and have a keen focus on getting things done.
- Bilingual, French language skills are an asset, not necessarily a requirement.
Required:
- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program with co-op/internship in Public Policy and Administration at a university with major coursework public policy, public administration, government, legal or political sciences.

Hourly Rate Range:
$21.00 - $24.00
Hourly Rate Estimate: This range represents the minimum and maximum hourly rates applicable to interns in this program or role. The hourly rate offered will fall within this range and is determined based on the intern’s academic progress (years completed in school).
All employment is contingent upon successful completion of background screenings in accordance with Nissan policies and as permitted by applicable statutes and regulations.
