Job Description

WGL – Public Affairs Coordinator (DC)

Are you passionate about shaping policy and building strong community relationships? Do you thrive in dynamic environments where your work directly influences local government decisions? If so, this is your opportunity to join a growing team and make an impact.

This is a new position designed to strengthen our engagement with local governments, counties, and municipalities—an area critical to our policy, legislative, permitting, and community-based initiatives. You will manage a defined local-government portfolio, building and sustaining relationships with elected officials, staff, and community stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Public Affairs Lead for D.C., you will provide essential support to proactively monitor local issues, elevate concerns early, and align local activities with broader state-level strategies.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local elected officials, staff, and community stakeholders to support public affairs objectives

  • Stay ahead of local issues by monitoring council and committee activity, hearings, and legislation, flagging and escalating emerging risks and opportunities to Public Affairs leadership as needed

  • Assist in developing positions on key issues, drafting memos, and preparing summaries and foundational analysis to inform state-level strategies

  • Organize meetings, events, and community engagements, including scheduling, materials preparation, and follow-up documentation

  • Keep detailed records, contact lists, and issue trackers to ensure proactive management of local public affairs activities

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3–5 years in public affairs, government relations, community engagement, or a related field; experience with local or federal government processes is highly valued

  • Understanding of legislative processes at federal, state, and local levels

  • Strong relationship-building and coalition-building abilities; excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and related tools

  • Hands-on, proactive, and adaptable with a strong ability to learn and grow in a dynamic environment

  • Passion for engagement and the ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences

Why Join Us?

  • This is a new role with room to evolve and expand for the right person

  • Help shape policy and community initiatives that matter

  • Work closely with senior public affairs leadership and gain direct exposure to high-impact policy, legislative, and community engagement efforts

We offer a competitive salary range of $95,400 to $138,075 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

The Company values diversity in its workforce and encourages United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications to apply.
