In Financial Services, we support the Group’s strategy of building tomorrow’s bank today for our customers, through a focus on three key priorities of trust, resilience, and capital generation.

Institutional Banking and Markets Finance supports the IB&M businesses in providing financial control, financial analysis, product control, regulatory, accounting and related project implementation for finance related functions.

The Decision Support and Capital team is responsible for several areas, including providing strategic ad hoc insights, business partnering and decision support to various senior stakeholders, supporting the CIP investment portfolio reporting, as well as the reporting and analysis of IB&M profitability, business key performance indicators, capital and risk adjusted performance.

Do work that matters
Reporting to the General Manager, IB&M Performance Management, this role owns the decision support and capital portfolios, with frequent exposure with senior stakeholders including the IB&M Group Executive, IB&M CFO and the IB&M Leadership Team, as well as partnering with teams across IB&M Finance, IB&M Strategy, cross-BU finance teams, Group Finance, as well as senior business stakeholders.

Your day could look like, but not limited to:

  • Reporting and analysis on IB&M’s key performance indicators, partnering with finance and business stakeholders to analyse performance against set benchmarks / targets and presenting results to various stakeholders (e.g. IB&M CFO)
  • Reporting and analysis on IB&M CIP Allocation and Return on Investment, supporting senior leader conversation on optimised performance of this portfolio and the strategic outcomes of the business
  • Analysis of domestic and offshore peer bank results, standing up key insights on comparable performance and areas of interest to present to senior stakeholders (e.g. IB&M Leadership Team)
  • End-to-end ownership on the reporting and analysis of IB&M’s capital and risk-adjusted performance, including presenting to the IB&M Financial Risk Committee
  • Co-ordinating the quarterly Pillar 3 process, including facilitating challenger review sessions and obtaining CFO sign-off
  • Contributing to key Performance Management deliverables, such as the Business Performance Review (“CEO”) Packs, Profit Announcement and Annual Restatements
  • Ad hoc analysis and generation of actionable insights as required to support senior stakeholders, and also through the proactive creation and maintaining of an insights pipeline / backlog for consideration
  • Business partnering with the IB&M Strategy team, providing finance support on strategy deliverables
  • Process improvement / automation of existing processes, such as delivering on automated reporting and data asset solutions to improve speed to delivery on reporting and analysis
  • Engage with people across various parts of IB&M Finance, the business and the wider Group; inclusive leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills are key success factors in this role
  • Proactively contributing to the team and IB&M Finance’s culture and strategic priorities as a senior leader

We’re interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Risk Mindset – All CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks.
    Strong commercial acumen, with knowledge of the banking industry and drivers of performance
  • Extensive experience within a performance management or advisory function
    Knowledge of capital and risk adjusted performance drivers (e.g. PACC and ROTE)
  • Experience building complex financial models and working with big data assets; corporate finance, transaction advisory, M&A preferred
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to provide supportive and authentic leadership to develop and sustain a strong finance team
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and idealising from a ‘blank slate’
