Job Purpose

The Executive Director, Group Corporate Banking is responsible for leading and managing the corporate banking division, driving the development and execution of strategies to grow the Bank's corporate and commercial client portfolio. This role involves overseeing the delivery of comprehensive financial solutions to corporate and commercial clients, enhancing client relationships, and ensuring the achievement of Affin Group’s financial targets. The incumbent of this role will also ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, manage risk, and foster a high-performance culture within the team to support the bank's overall business objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Formulate and implement the Group Corporate Banking Division’s strategy in alignment with overall Bank’s goals and objectives.

  • Develop marketing and sales strategies focused on growing business volumes, customer base, and income.

  • Drive innovation and ensure the division remains competitive and responsive to market changes.

  • Spearhead the development of products and services for the Transaction Banking department.

  • Work closely with other business partners, including Treasury, Investment Banking, Enterprise Banking, Private Banking, Compliance, Risk & Credit Management, in identifying and supporting needs and cross-selling opportunities.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Manage and maintain existing customer relationships, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and retention.

  • Understand the value drivers of the business and shape it with a unique value proposition relative to competitors.

Business Growth and Development:

  • Build a platform for sustainable, responsible, and profitable business growth, both internally and externally.

  • Scout for opportunities to develop partnerships, alliances, and tie-ups that would bring long-term benefits.

  • Assess the risks to the business of any new commercial opportunities.

Organizational Development:

  • Set the appropriate corporate tone, culture, and risk appreciation mindset for long-term overall benefit and succession purposes.

  • Uphold high performance and banking standards while representing the banking group.

  • Organize the business into various strengths and functionalities for growth, risk management, and proposition creation purposes.

  • Manage the business into strength while contributing to the overall sustainability of the banking group.

  • Put best-fit talents into the right areas to champion respective areas and functions.

External Representation:

  • Represent the bank externally at events, conferences, and exhibitions to enhance and strengthen the bank's profile.

  • Optimize all business development opportunities through effective external representation.

Financial Performance:

  • Drive the financial performance of the corporate banking division, achieving revenue and profitability targets.

  • Ensure effective cost management and operational efficiency across the division.

Risk Management:

  • Implement robust risk management practices to safeguard the division’s assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor and manage credit, market and operational risks, taking proactive measures to mitigate potential issues.

Required Skills

  • At least sixteen (16) years' post-qualification experience in corporate banking relationship, of which at least twelve (12) must have been in the banking sector.

  • A minimum of eight (8) years' experience in a senior management role in banking institution.

  • A good understanding and knowledge with proven track record of client relationship accesses of Corporate and Commercial business in Malaysia.

  • Familiarity with FSA/IFA 2013 as well as other compliance and regulatory requirements.

  • Certified Credit Professional Certification for Business Credit is an added advantage.

  • Demonstrable strong strategic orientation.

  • Experience in product development and portfolio management is an added advantage.

  • Have strong Corporate Banking, credit risk, and transaction execution skills, and experiences.
