Event Manager – SONA Festival – Dietrich College

Carnegie Mellon University’s Dietrich College is searching for an Event Manager to join their team for a one-month, fixed-term role. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of event logistics, including scheduling, space reservations, vendor coordination, hospitality, and on-site execution.

  • Oversee budget tracking and expense management to ensure the event remains aligned with financial parameters.

  • Collaborate closely with the project lead and campus partners to ensure smooth planning and implementation.

  • Support the successful engagement of participants and contributors from media and related fields.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You should demonstrate:

  • Proven experience managing events, with strong organizational and project management skills.

  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of partners.

  • Familiarity with immersive or interactive media is welcome, but not required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 1-3 years of event planning experience required; experience in arts, film, or technology contexts is preferred

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check

Additional Information:

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.  Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.

  • This is a  part-time (20 hours per week), non-exempt position based in Pittsburgh, PA

  • Fixed Term: This is a fixed-term position with an estimated duration of one month.
