Abbott Ireland Diagnostic Division – Longford:
The Longford facility plays a key role in helping Abbott to meet the increasing global demand for diagnostic testing in areas such as infectious disease, cancer, thyroid, and cardiovascular diseases.
Longford is based in the midlands of Ireland surrounded by water with the River Shannon, Lough Ree and the Royal Canal. It has a vibrant collection of communities with a rich historical background. The County has plenty to offer to both visitors and citizens in sport, culture, literature, amenities, festivals, events, retail and dining.
We currently have a position for an experienced and people‑focused EHS Team Leader to drive a culture of safety excellence and continuous improvement across our site. This is a high‑impact leadership role where you will shape safety standards, develop an engaged EHS team, and partner cross‑functionally to ensure our people, processes, and environment are protected.

As EHS Team Leader, you will:
Lead, support, and develop our site’s EHS team to ensure consistent and high‑quality delivery of all safety, environmental, and occupational health programmes.
Champion a proactive, positive, and accountable EHS culture across the site.
Ensure EHS processes operate effectively, standard work is completed on time, and risk‑reduction measures are embedded in day‑to‑day operations.
Drive regulatory compliance while supporting continuous improvement initiatives
Lead, mentor, and develop the EHS team to deliver high‑quality support across the site.
Allocate and oversee daily/weekly priorities.
Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to build capability.
Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and open communication.
Ensure full compliance with all legal, corporate, and industry EHS standards.
Implement, maintain, and continuously improve site EHS policies and programmes.
Review and support risk assessments, SOPs, and environmental assessments, ensuring timely action completion.
Lead site inspections, audits, and corrective action follow‑up.
Identify and deliver improvements across EHS processes, tools, and systems.
Support CI activities including Kaizen, Gemba, and root cause analysis.
Monitor EHS KPIs, analyse trends, and recommend data‑driven improvements.
Act as a key contact for safety and environmental queries.
Work closely with Operations, Engineering, HR, Quality and others to integrate EHS into daily operations.
Provide EHS input to Engineering, Validation, and Operations projects from design through implementation.
Incident & Emergency Management
Lead incident investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis and effective CAPA closure.
Manage the site Emergency Response Programme, including drills, equipment readiness, and team capability.
Environmental Compliance
Oversee environmental compliance programmes, waste contractor management, facilities oversight, and regulatory reporting.
Maintain and manage the ETMS To‑Do List.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education
Degree (or equivalent) in Science, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Health & Safety, Industrial Management, or a related field (preferred).
Experience & Skills
3+ years’ experience in manufacturing, industrial, or similar operational environments.
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies (preferred).
Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem‑solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and make evidence‑based recommendations.
Comfortable influencing and partnering cross‑functionally at all levels.
