Environmental Compliance Technician l  

Location: Silverdale, Washington (Bangor) 

Type: Non-Exempt  

Work Schedule: Full-time 

Compensation: $34.96/hr 

HMG is seeking a reliable and safety-minded Environmental Compliance Technician I. This position primarily handles hazardous waste pickups, processing, shipment, spill response, and pump truck operations for waste and septic systems. Additional duties include performing inspections and documenting results per Navy requirements. This role requires strict adherence to WA State Dangerous Waste Regulations, EPA Federal Rules, and Navy environmental stan

dards.  

Typical duties include but are not limited to:  

  • Perform environmental sampling, field testing, and documentation for wastewater, stormwater, and hazardous materials programs. 

  • Collect, package, and prepare waste containers for shipment per DOT, EPA, Navy, and State hazardous waste regulations. 

  • Conduct hazardous waste pickups, bulking/consolidation, and transport to accumulation areas. 

  • Maintain accurate operating records, inspection logs, and environmental compliance reports. 

  • Inspect and maintain waste handling tools, trucks, and equipment. 

  • Perform tank cleanings, waste bulking, pump truck operations, and hazmat cleanup in compliance with company procedures. 

  • Conduct hazardous waste facility inspections to ensure Federal, State, and Navy compliance. 

  • Participate in spill response, cleanup, and Facility Response Team (FRT) activities; maintain HAZWOPER and FRT credentials. 

  • Determine and wear proper PPE, including respirators and protective gear, during spill response and waste handling tasks. 

  • Support stormwater, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and Spill Prevention/Control compliance activities. 

  • Provide customer support for setting up compliant waste storage sites and proper labeling practices. 

  • Record and close out work orders in Maximo with clear, detailed documentation. 

  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency environmental incidents within one hour as required. 

  • Work safely in confined spaces and environments with potential chemical, fuel, or hazardous material exposure. 

  • Assist in implementing and monitoring environmental programs to ensure contract compliance with Navy standards. 

 

Qualifications:   

  • Highschool Diploma/GED is required. 

  • 0- 3 years' experience in Environmental Field 

  • First Aid/CPR Certification. 

  •  OSHA series training. S 

  • Strong maintenance background preferred. 

  • Familiarity with military equipment and facilities.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. 

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required 

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time. 

Requirements:  

  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
