The Role

As we continue to grow, as one QuidelOrtho we are seeking a Manager, Engineering Operations. The Manager of Engineering Operations provides leadership and oversight of  Engineering staff, operational equipment and supporting systems to efficiently maintain and reliably operate the QuidelOrtho Pompano operations. The position will provide management oversight for capital delivery including project management, supplier management and effective and efficient Engineering operations.  Supporting systems include maintenance work management, building control, quality, procurement, training, and all associated supporting procedures. Position has responsibility for infrastructure and staffing capability to ensure reliable and efficient Equipment operations, whilst facilitating a comprehensive engineering excellence program. Typically best practices, equipment performance metrics, personnel within all supporting activities. Ultimately, this role is accountable for the delivery of high quality, safe, compliant, cost effective engineering at the Pompano Beach Florida facility.

This is an onsite position located in Pompano Beach Florida.


The Responsibilities

  • Responsible for directing all Engineering functional activities to be delivered in a safe, compliant, timely and efficiently.

  • Establish the strategic vision and direction for the Engineering department in line with the overall business and QuidelOrtho strategic goals.

  • Ensure Operations assets & site Equipment are capable of supporting the delivery of Raritan business plan ensuring that costs, quality, delivery and HS&E activities are optimized.

  • Accountable for adherence to annual budget, meeting quality objectives, and maintenance schedule performance.

  • Lead development and alignment of individual goals, provide feedback, and develop talent at the site.

  • Provide leadership in creating a high performance and continuous improvement culture, driven by establishing clear expectations for staff and service providers.

  • Develop performance metrics for service providers and routinely review/measure service provider performance.

  • Oversee equipment maintenance planning and scheduling in optimizing preventive maintenance job instruction content and maintenance processes to reduce cost and improve overall operating reliability.

  • Responsible for successful coordination of all maintenance interventions.

  • Lead Equipment improvement & Capital projects planning to provide annual recommendations and justifications based on asset performance, associated life-cycle costs, and opportunities for incremental operating/cost improvements.

  • Responsible for ensuring staff, department and Site compliance with all local, national, international and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.

  • Support the sites energy and waste strategies to meet business needs in terms of cost and sustainability.     

  • Performs additional work-related duties as assigned.

​The Individual

Required:

  • BS in Engineering or similar field.

  • 8 - 10 years of management experience in Manufacturing, Plant Operations.

  • Experience in GMP compliance and delivering requirements.

  • Practical experience in facility work management and automation systems.

  • Proven leadership capability with an track record of leading/contributing to cross-functional teams within a regulated operational or technical environment.

  • Ability to manage conflicting objectives and priorities.

  • Ability to resolve conflict around operational requirements and/or facilitate project progress against project timelines.

  • Travel < 5%

Preferred:

  • Masters degree.

  • Knowledge of Quidel Ortho, its facilities and maintenance systems.

The Key Working Relationships

  • Internal Partners: Site Head; Functional Managers/Supervisors, Site Administrative Support Personnel, Quality Assurance, Maintenance Supervision and Staff, R&D Engineering, IT

  • External Partners: Transportation vendor,  Utility Suppliers, Security, Cafeteria and Maintenance Contract Service Suppliers including contract review, performance and priority focus, sustained relations with key suppliers, and sourcing requirements/attainment

The Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of an office, laboratory and manufacturing environment. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines and support of operational goals. Position requires ability to flexibly spend time on the desk, analyzing data, in meetings as well as hand-on product testing as needed.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Position requires use of Personal Protective Equipment as posted.

Physical Demands

Manual dexterity to handle instruments, complete repetitive motions, and stand for long periods of time is required. Including sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, balancing (Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.  Amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium), and ability to lift up to 30lbs.
