The Development Engineer 1 will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment to support the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for consumables used in genomic sequencing. This role involves hands-on prototyping and piloting of new products using wafer assembly techniques such as plasma ashing, laser cutting, wafer alignment, and wafer bonding. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine processes that meet product quality, throughput, and cost targets.

Responsibilities:

  • Become proficient in wafer assembly processes (plasma ashing, laser cutting, wafer alignment, wafer bonding); use these processes in the prototyping and piloting of new products.
  • Work in cross-functional teams to develop manufacturing processes for consumables.
  • Provide design feedback to meet product quality, throughput and cost requirements.
  • Support the testing and screening of new processes and new materials.
  • Use systematic problem-solving methods to troubleshoot issues related to product quality, stability and robustness.
  • Work independently and within teams to make detailed observations, plan, conduct, analyze, interpret, and report recommendations.
  • Support the transfer of new processes and products to Production.
  • Conduct or assist with experimentation related to risk and hazard analysis to refine requirements and improve product design
  • Work with engineers to develop and implement processes to reduce or eliminate sources of systematic equipment failures
  • Learn and understand new equipment and create maintenance/service programs to provide continually improving equipment availability

Experience/Education:

  • Typically requires 0 to 2 years of previous professional experience.
  • Work experience in biotech or medical device field desired
  • Good data analysis skills and a logical approach to problem solving skills required
  • Experience with statistical analysis and data analysis programs (JMP, MATLAB, R, Python, Microsoft Excel) is a plus
  • Experience with 3D and 2D CAD is a plus
  • Ability to communicate and document equipment issues
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly
  • Occasional travel required, no more than 5%

The estimated base salary range for the Engineer 1 - Development role based in the United States of America is: $67,000 - $100,600. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
