Role Description:
the EHS Lead is accountable for end-to-end Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) leadership for the Pfizer Melbourne site. Leads the site EHS strategy and operational plan, ensuring robust governance, regulatory and Pfizer standards compliance, and effective risk management across all activities. Partners with site leadership to embed a proactive, high-performing safety culture, drives continuous improvement, and maintains EHS assurance and surveillance in line with Pfizer requirements.
Role Responsibilities:
Provide end‑to‑end leadership and accountability for Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) across the Pfizer Melbourne site, ensuring full compliance with Pfizer Global Policies, Standards, and all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.
Define, deploy, and continuously evolve the site EHS strategy, aligned with PGS and Pfizer priorities, to build and sustain a strong, proactive, and high‑performing safety and environmental culture.
Establish, govern, and optimize robust EHS management systems and processes to deliver annual site performance targets, monthly executive metrics, and long‑term EHS objectives, ensuring alignment with operational, quality, and business needs.
Drive continuous improvement in EHS performance, including cultural and behavioural transformation, through the use of leading and lagging indicators, risk‑based decision making, and best‑practice methodologies.
Lead and oversee all site EHS audits, inspections, and regulatory engagements, ensuring effective preparation, execution, follow‑up, and sustained compliance, while providing coaching and leadership to the EHS team.
Oversee and coordinate frontline EHS activities, including site committees and consultation mechanisms, training programs, incident investigation and reporting, hazard identification, and corrective and preventive action management.
Ensure effective delivery of site health services, including annual colleague medical surveillance programs, fitness‑for‑work assessments, return‑to‑work programs, and broader occupational health initiatives.
Own and govern Site Business Continuity Management (BCM) and has the oversight of Crisis Management (CM) Plans, leading preparedness activities, simulations, and response coordination to ensure site resilience.
Lead environmental stewardship initiatives, including environmental risk management, waste management, sustainability programs, and green practices, supporting Pfizer’s environmental and sustainability commitments.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in relevant field, e.g. Engineering, Chemistry or Science
10-15 years’ experience working in a pharmaceutical, scientific or food manufacturing site in the Operational or EHS discipline
5 years’ experience in a senior management role leading a team of professionals
Demonstrated success in delivering strategic change management in relation to EHS initiatives
Formal EHS qualifications and knowledge of Australian EHS legislation, with membership of a relevant professional body preferred
Good interpersonal skills including the ability to lead and work with all levels
Strong and effective leadership/influencing and team building capability at all levels across the business
