Job Summary: This position is part of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI), Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Education Technician (Tutor) you will be responsible for coordinating tutoring services between SIPI's non-academic and academic programs to further enhance student learning and student support.

Major Duties:

  • As a Education Technician (Tutor), GS-1702-7, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning. Teach students study skills, note-taking skills, and test-taking strategies. Research or recommend textbooks, software, equipment, or other learning materials to complement tutoring. Review class material with students by discussing text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments. Prepare and facilitate tutoring workshops, collaborative projects, or academic support sessions for smallgroups of students. Provide feedback to students, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.

Qualifications: Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-07 Level: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience example for this position include: tutoring students (in subject areas such as mathematics, reading, writing, etc.), teach students study skills, note-taking skills, and test-taking strategies, assess students' progress throughout tutoring sessions and maintain filing and records system. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
