The Department of English in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking Lecturers to teach one, two, three, or four courses per semester in First-Year Composition, Business Communication, Technical Communication, English as a Second Language, Public Speaking, Business and Professional Speaking, Pre-Speech and Language Pathology, Literature, and other courses as needed. Depending on staffing needs, assignments may be Monday/Wednesday/Friday, Tuesday/Thursday, or five days a week.
This position is a 9-month appointment and will be at an 75% - 87.5% FTE (30 – 35 hours/week). Renewal beyond the initial one-year appointment is possible and is determined by performance and department needs.
Attendance at orientation, some staff meetings, workshops, or forums is required, as is adherence to programmatic goals.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric, Technical Communication, Speech Communication, Linguistics or a closely related field
Experience in college-level teaching of one or more First-Year Composition, Business Communication, Technical Communication, English as a Second Language, Linguistics, Public Speaking and Business and Professional Speaking, Literature, Creative Writing, or courses that are closely aligned
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in English, Rhetoric, Technical Communication, Speech Communication, Linguistics, or related field
Experience teaching Public Speaking, Business and Professional Speaking and/or Business Communication

The Department of English in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University offers bachelor's degree programs in English, Linguistics, Speech Communication, and Technical Communication; as well as—in partnership with the Department of World Languages and Cultures—a minor in World Film Studies. On the graduate level, the department offers MA degrees in Literature; Rhetoric, Composition, and Professional Communication; TESL/Applied Linguistics; as well as an MFA program in Creative Writing and the Environment. The department also offers two PhD programs in Applied Linguistics and Technology and Rhetoric and Professional Communication.
