The Director of Supply Chain - Commercial Brass holds ultimate responsibility for all facets of the Commercial Brass supply chain operation. This strategic leadership role is primarily focused on defining the function’s vision and long-term strategy to drive organizational success. The Director fosters close, cross-functional collaboration with key stakeholders to achieve critical business objectives and financial targets and directly leads and mentors the procurement team.

  • Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive supply chain strategies that support Commercial Brass. This includes demand planning and forecasting to balance supply with customer needs. Oversight and accountability for Kanban system and order releases to optimize inventory availability, minimize stock outages, minimize air freight expense and align to BU inventory / cash flow objectives.

  • Annual Operation Plan and budget: Assume full ownership of the supply chain function's budget and Annual Operating Plan (AOP). Collaborate strategically with the Finance department and key stakeholders during the planning cycle to define targets and design robust strategies that ensure all financial commitments and outcomes are met.

  • Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging technologies like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to enhance productivity and reduce waste. Lead and provide strategic direction for the Available to Promise (ATP) process implementation.

  • Supplier performance management: Design and deploy a comprehensive supplier performance management strategy aimed at achieving best-in-class delivery systems. Strategically manage vendor performance, optimize lead times, guarantee continuity of supply (COS), and implement appropriate inventory buffers and allocation models to build supply chain resilience without accumulating excess stock.

  • Financial oversight: Establish a highly accurate, robust receipt forecasting methodology, implementing a root-cause analysis framework to diagnose forecast variances cycle-over-cycle. Drive continuous process improvement by developing countermeasures for misses and embedding learnings into standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Leadership and Team Development: Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing team of supply chain professionals. Lead strategic talent development initiatives designed to build an adaptive, high-performing team. Ensure performance evaluation frameworks remain relevant to the current business landscape while fostering continuous professional growth.

  • Visual Daily Management System: Design and implement robust Visual Daily Management (VDM) systems that foster transparency, accelerate problem identification, streamline decision-making processes, and cultivate a culture of accountability and employee engagement. Collaborate strategically with key stakeholders to align VDM initiatives with overarching business needs and desired outcomes.

  • Risk mitigation: Design and develop contingency plans and proactively manage supply chain risks, such as supplier delays or quality issues, to minimize disruptions. Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to formulate strategies, and execution plans to mitigate risks.

Qualifications

  • BS or BA degree required; Masters preferred (Supply Chain Management, Industrial Distribution, or technical field)

  • 10+ years of experience in materials management or supply chain, demand planning, production scheduling, inventory control, and procurement in a high volume, high-mix manufacturing environment

  • 5+ years of previous management experience

  • Experienced with all aspects of material management including Information Systems and procedures relating to the function

  • Experience in securing buy-in for initiatives from all management levels including senior leaders

  • Alignment and collaboration with cross-functional teams; i.e. Strategic Supply Chain

  • Ability to develop reporting mechanisms and perform analytics to track progress toward operational goals and drive root- cause analysis

  • Proven success working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to adapt to changing business conditions with a sense of urgency

  • Excellent communication and presentations skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization

  • Exceptional track record of dealing with and influencing internal and external stakeholders

  • Proven ability to plan projects and to use written, verbal, analytical and organizational skills to influence business objectives

  • Proven leadership capabilities to drive and deliver results

  • Project management skills to direct activities towards continuous process improvement
