This role is part of Alcon's Commercial & General Management function, a team that oversees the company's commercial strategies to ensure operational efficiency and support strategic decision making as we transform the eye care industry.
The Director, Business Strategy & Planning, is primarily responsible for shaping the company's strategic direction by managing complex projects and collaborating with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic plans. This role requires a deep understanding of industry trends and internal operations to drive business growth and innovation. In this role, a typical day will include:
- Lead the global implementation of the Claims Excellence Process, a top-tier ELT initiative, ensuring alignment across all Alcon franchises and functions.
- Own and optimize the Material Approval Process (MAP) operations and procedures across Alcon, driving consistency, compliance, and efficiency.
- Serve as the strategic integrator across Global Franchises, Regional Marketing, R&D, HEOR, Market Research, Regulatory, Medical, and Legal, fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Champion Change Management and Cultural Improvement initiatives to promote a positive, solution-oriented culture across the organization.
- Collaborate across Franchise Directors with Alcon Top Project and Key Products to streamline cross-functional pre-alignment relative to key aspirational claims and studies.
- Design and operationalize the Claims Resolution Committee, ensuring streamlined governance and decision-making.
- Act as a strategic liaison with General Managers across Franchise, US, and International markets, enabling global alignment and communication on MAP operations.
- Ensure MAP processes meet business objectives in a high-quality, compliant, and timely manner.
- Drive the adoption of best practices in MAP through strong stakeholder engagement and continuous process improvement.
- Provide effective leadership to MAP staff, prioritizing material review, submission readiness, and solution-focused MAP meetings.
- Identify and resolve team, process, and system challenges using MAP metric analyses and collaborative problem-solving.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of MAP operations.
- Develop and report on MAP performance metrics, using insights to drive continuous improvement across stakeholder groups.
- Maintain and evolve industry best practices in material approval.
What You'll Bring to Alcon:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
- 10 Years of Relevant Experience
- 6 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
- Progressive leadership experience in regulatory, marketing operations, or medical affairs within a global healthcare or life sciences organization.
- Proven track record of leading enterprise-wide process transformation and change management initiatives.
- Deep understanding of material approval processes, compliance frameworks, and cross-functional governance.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in developing and leveraging operational metrics to drive continuous improvement.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization, including executive leadership.
- Experience working across global markets and navigating complex matrixed environments.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance culture.
