What You’ll Be Doing

As a key member of the Global Equities Group, the New York Securities Lending /Equity Finance Sales Trader will drive business growth and contribute to firm wide priorities and business line initiatives. Your role will sit within the existing New York Securities Lending/Equity Finance sales & trading team. Working alongside our Global Securities lending/Equity Finance team you will help support our global prime brokerage and synthetic prime  expansion as well as helping structure creative solutions for our varied and ever-expanding client base such as retail, institutional, pension funds, asset managers, our internal partners in Prime, Equity Derivatives, Delta one and Fixed Income as well as external Banks and Broker dealers.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Partner and coordinate with Securities Lending/Equity Finance teams in London, Toronto, and New York to identify and execute profitable financing trading opportunities across US, Canadian, European, and Emerging markets, while continuously managing risk.

  • Drive momentum for US expansion in Securities Lending/Equity Finance, Delta 1, Repo, Prime Brokerage, CFG, and Equity Derivatives by leveraging existing trading relationships and developing new counterparty relationships with hedge funds, agent lenders, pension funds, asset managers, and other sources of supply and funding.

  • Possess strong understanding of Securities Lending and Equity Finance, with comprehensive knowledge of activities across equities and fixed income; encouraged to think strategically and help structure creative solutions for client short coverage and financing needs.

  • Manage the daily Securities Lending Book, borrowing and lending global equities for a full suite of clients—including retail, institutional, pension funds, Delta One, and Prime Brokerage—ensuring the book is balanced, optimized, and aligned with market rates.

  • Collaborate with Prime Services partners to ensure seamless client experience, generate trade ideas, provide market commentary, and support sales and client interactions.

  • Support global Prime Brokerage expansion by marketing CIBC products and services to internal and external clients, including regular client meetings and participation in industry events and panels.

  • Work with Operations, Technology, Compliance, Tax, Legal, Credit, and Risk teams to control, report, monitor, and manage business risk daily.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of trading systems and operational infrastructure to deliver front-to-back enhancements and grow the client franchise.

  • Lead front office liaison with the technology team during the migration from Global One to SFTC as the front office trading platform.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial markets, specifically Securities Lending and Equity Finance and how and why they function, understand the full potential product suite offering and how all can be impacted by market conditions and the opportunities that can arise.

  • 10+ years of relevant financial industry experience in a similar position (Securities Lending, Equity Finance, Repo, Prime Brokerage)

  • US and Canadian Securities registrations where required or commitment to attain within 3 months of start date

  • Ability to deliver top tier client service to a wide suite of clients including Prime Brokerage, Banks, Brokers, and Retail network.

  • Strong understanding of liquidity ratios and balance sheet optimisation alongside trading structure solutions.

  • Experienced in collateral optimisation across counterparties and triparty agent to manage different capital & liquidity constraints (LCR, NSFR, RWA etc).

  • Experience with Loanet, Global One, Equilend,  and other external vendors.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, able to present complex material in a simple manner.

  • Ability to work as part of a team with other traders and salespeople.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

  • Negotiating and influencing skills to shape decision-making processes at senior levels and resolve situations where compromise solutions are often negotiated.

  • Creativity skills sufficient to resolve complex problems and/or identify innovative alternatives or opportunities.

  • Comprehensive understanding of elements of profitability, risk and cost control.

  • Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC .

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary of $225,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
