We are seeking a Director of Procurement, a dynamic, strategic leader who will oversee procurement operations and drive value across our national network.
This position is based at our Corporate Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.
Reporting to the Vice President, SGP, the Director of Procurement will lead the development and execution of SGP’s procurement strategy. Key responsibilities include managing the procurement team, overseeing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, leading strategic sourcing initiatives, and supporting integration for new communities and acquisitions, in addition to supporting Extendicare’s long-term care redevelopment program.
The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with deep experience in procurement, skilled at leveraging SGP’s scale to deliver cost savings, operational excellence, and enhanced service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and champion a strategic procurement framework aligned with SGP’s long-term goals and partner needs.
Oversee the formulation and management of SGP’s approved vendor list across all categories. Negotiate and manage contracts to ensure alignment with business objectives and compliance standards.
Lead sourcing initiatives that optimize total cost of ownership, mitigate supply risks, and enhance supplier performance.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Operations, IT, HR, Legal, Construction and Finance) to ensure procurement adds measurable value.
Establish KPIs, monitor procurement performance, and provide data-driven insights to support decision-making.
Drive automation and integration of procurement systems with financial platforms (e.g., Workday, Salesforce).
Implement robust controls and audit processes to ensure procurement integrity and policy adherence.
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing procurement team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
What we are looking for:
Minimum 10+ years of progressive procurement experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role, ideally within healthcare or a similarly complex industry and/or experiencing working with a GPO.
Proven experience managing procurement operations with large scale purchasing volume and working in a complex matrix operating environment
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field; advanced certifications (e.g., CPSM, MBA) preferred.
Expertise in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier management, and procurement analytics.
Strong understanding of healthcare funding models, government regulations, and GPO dynamics.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proficiency in procurement and financial systems (e.g., Workday, Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite).
Willing to travel within Canada, as necessary to support the regional teams
