Position Summary

This role presents an opportunity for a Director, Legal Counsel to join the legal function. It is ideal for a lawyer with significant commercial experience in the telecommunications sector, with demonstrated ability to lead negotiations and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice across multiple jurisdictions.

The successful candidate will be a proactive, solutions-driven professional with strong commercial judgment and the ability to support both operational and strategic business initiatives in a dynamic organization.

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for providing business-driven legal and policy advice, guidance, and support on a wide range of matters relating to Cogeco’s operations and strategic initiatives. The candidate must be a licensed lawyer in good standing in a Canadian province or a U.S. state.
 

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead, structure, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including operational and strategic transactions and arrangements

  • Conduct legal reviews and provide risk assessments for business initiatives across multiple jurisdictions

  • Advise internal stakeholders on legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements

  •  Partner with business teams to deliver pragmatic, solutions-oriented legal advice aligned with organizational objectives

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and commercial risks

  • Coordinate with external counsel on specialized, complex, or cross-border matters as required

  • Monitor and interpret legal and regulatory developments relevant to the business and industry

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leading negotiations and managing complex commercial transactions

  • Experience advising on multi-jurisdictional legal and regulatory matters

  • Member in good standing as a licensed lawyer in a Canadian province or a U.S. state

  • Minimum 6+ years of post-qualification legal experience, with a focus on commercial law

  • Significant experience in the telecommunications industry is required
