Director, Japan Credit Research Analyst

Role Overview

As a member of the Asia-Pacific Credit Research team within BlackRock Global Fixed Income, the successful candidate will be an analyst for the Japanese USD and JPY denominated credits from various corporate and financial sectors in debt markets. They will be working closely with the APAC research team, executing the credit research agenda feeding into the Asian and global credit platforms and leveraging investment expertise across BlackRock’s wider investment research platform including but not limited to US and European FI, and Credit platforms. This role is for candidates who aspire to be a fixed income investment professional and be part of a highly motivated team.

Responsibilities

- Conduct deep fundamental research to generate alpha ideas for Asian and global portfolios. The focus will be on credits from various corporate and financial sectors in Japanese debt markets

- Participate and contribute to research meetings

- Partner with PMs in developing sector views using fundamental and valuation models

- Be the key representative on the ground for the APAC GFI business, responsible for credit analysis, maintaining relationships with issuers and counterparties locally, and identify alpha generating opportunities that the business can tap

- Be the coverage credit research analyst on names in the Asia Corporate Sector (Japan)

- Take ownership in the research efforts for names under coverage to deliver strong and consistent alpha

- Drive and monitor proactive idea generation on existing and/or new alpha opportunities in the sector

- Monitor and constructively challenge investment priorities and execution against those priorities, in coordination with the PMs and respective investment mandates

- Leveraging BlackRock’s wider investment research platform

- Develop relationships across BlackRock, including but not limited to US and European FI, and Credit platforms, to leverage and improve our insights

Knowledge / Experience required

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years of experience and a proven track record of generating alpha. CFA charter holder preferred.

  • Demonstrated fundamental research, analytical skills, with strong attention to detail. Extensive Japanese credit research experience required.

  • Fluency in Japanese and English required.

  • Excellent quantitative modeling and valuation skills and extensive experience in utilizing those skills within a financial services institution with familiarity and experience with bond and loan covenants.

  • Disciplined organizational and project management skills, ability to manage competing workloads effectively, and deliver quality work on schedule.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal in Japanese and English. The successful candidate must have the confidence and ability to persuasively interact at the most senior levels of colleagues, management, and clients.

  • Connections within the industry and proven ability to build and sustain internal and external relationships.

  • Outstanding interpersonal characteristics, reputation, and team orientation, which will enable her/him to command the confidence, loyalty, and respect of investment colleagues and external constituents.
