Job Summary

The Director, Institutional Sales & Service – Western Canada, is responsible for developing and managing institutional client relationships across the region. The role focuses on supporting BMO Global Asset Management’s institutional clients and prospects through business development, relationship management, and investment education.

A key component of the position includes supporting and deepening relationships with Indigenous clients and communities, while also contributing to broader institutional coverage including engagement with investment consultants and other institutional stakeholders.

This role combines institutional business development, relationship management, and client servicing responsibilities, with an emphasis on building long-term partnerships and delivering investment solutions aligned with clients’ governance frameworks and long-term investment objectives. The successful candidate will work closely with portfolio managers and internal specialists to deliver investment insights, client education, and tailored portfolio solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Institutional Client Coverage

Develop and maintain relationships with institutional clients and prospects across Western Canada. Provide ongoing relationship management including investment updates, portfolio reviews, and client education sessions in collaboration with portfolio managers and specialists. Support client onboarding and ensure a high standard of ongoing service.

Indigenous Client Engagement

Support and deepen BMO Global Asset Management’s relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations. Engage respectfully with community leadership and governance structures while developing an understanding of community priorities, values, and long-term financial objectives. Provide investment education and support governance discussions where appropriate while contributing to the development of long-term partnerships.

Business Development

Identify and pursue new institutional opportunities across Western Canada. Participate in business development initiatives including client meetings, presentations, and finalist discussions. Support responses to RFPs and other client inquiries and assist with the implementation of new investment mandates.

Investment Consultant Engagement

Develop and maintain relationships with investment consultants and other professional advisors involved in institutional investment decisions. Ensure BMO Global Asset Management’s investment strategies and capabilities are effectively represented in consultant discussions and reviews.

Client Education and Thought Leadership

Deliver investment education and market insights to institutional clients and stakeholders. Provide guidance on topics such as asset allocation, portfolio construction, and long-term investment strategy.

Market Awareness

Maintain a strong understanding of institutional market developments, competitive dynamics, and emerging client needs. Provide feedback and insights to senior leadership to support strategic planning and product positioning.

Internal Collaboration

Work closely with portfolio managers, product specialists, and internal partners to ensure clients receive coordinated support and access to BMO’s broader capabilities. Maintain accurate client and pipeline activity in Salesforce and contribute to regional planning initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field.
  • CFA Charterholder or CIM designation preferred.
  • Must be eligible to obtain Exempt Market Dealer (EMD) licensing.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in institutional asset management, institutional business development, or investment advisory.
  • Strong understanding of institutional investment strategies, asset allocation, and portfolio construction.
  • Experience working with institutional investors such as pension plans, foundations, endowments Indigenous communities or organizations, and family offices is an asset.

Working Conditions

Location: Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba)

This role requires extensive travel throughout Western Canada, including travel to remote communities and regional centres, to support client engagement and business development activities.

Salary:

$89 700,00 - $167 700,00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
