Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector is looking for a Director to lead an Alabama-based Software and Electronics & Payloads (SW and E&P) organization of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Central Region Engineering Software and Controls and will be based out of Huntsville, AL.
As the Director of Alabama SW and E&P, you will be responsible for the technical leadership, people leadership, and supervisory responsibilities of over 500 engineers. You will communicate the goals and priorities of the Space Systems Central Region Engineering organization, ensuring that all activities are aligned with these objectives.
The selected candidate will:
Lead the engineering organization with employee management responsibilities including goal setting, performance evaluation, equity adjustments and promotions, merit and bonus planning, training, and workforce development.
Collaborate with Space Systems Business Unit, Operating Unit, and program leadership to plan for and provide staffing to ensure successful program execution.
Collaborate with peer Engineering leaders to effectively support program execution across all supported programs.
Collaborate with multiple functional organizations (business management, human resources, manufacturing & operations, mission assurance, security, and talent acquisition) to define strategies that enhance engineering effectiveness and efficiency.
Identify engineering focus areas for improvement, development and execution of engineering initiatives, and elimination of non-value-added activities in all levels of the engineering organization.
The candidate requires a broad engineering knowledge base in Software and Controls Engineering, and Hardware Engineering. In addition to understanding the technical domains of Software and Controls Engineering, this position requires experience in functionally managing large teams of personnel and alignment with leadership and company goals. The ideal candidate will also have a background in Systems Engineering, budgetary management, technical team leadership, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across business areas.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 12 years of progressive technical experience in engineering.
8+ years of management experience in engineering or related technical fields.
Understanding of the engineering development lifecycle across multiple engineering disciplines with a focus on Software and Controls Engineering.
Knowledge and experience with Agile execution, DevOps, and development tools.
·Must have a current or active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 12 years of progressive technical experience in engineering.
Active or current TS/SCI security clearance.
10+ years of management experience in engineering or related technical fields.
Strong understanding of business development and capture strategy lifecycles (i.e. proposal strategy, RFI/RFP’s, requirements, review teams etc.)
Knowledge of Earned Value Management/Control Account Management (EVM/CAM).
Experience addressing program risk through an analytical forward-looking approach to include risk management and technical, cost, and schedule impacts as it relates to managing engineering projects.
Experience in operational organization effectiveness and implementing best practices.
