Job Summary: The MOVE! Weight Management Program Coordinator has full responsibility for administering all aspects of the local weight management initiative and implementing health promotion/disease prevention activities to support the health and well-being of the Veteran population and the employees who care for them.
Major Duties:
- The MOVE! Program Coordinator will be involved in the professional practice of dietetics in accordance with the guidance set forth in Nutrition and Food Service policies and procedures and VA regulations governing the practice of dietetics. MOVE! Program Coordinators: Manage all phases of the MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans facility program, which falls under the umbrella of Health Promotion Disease Prevention (HPDP). The coordinator is responsible for the overall technical and administrative oversight of the MOVE! Weight Management Program operations within their program area. The program coordinator leads the MOVE! team and develops, organizes, directs, manages, and controls the operational status of the program. Plan and develop policies, procedures and goals, and implements and educates staff on applicable VHA directives, handbooks, or other policies. The program coordinator has overall responsibility for planning, assessing, and evaluating programs to ensure proper coordination between care delivered by the program and overall delivery of healthcare within the facility. Ensure the program provides a Whole Health approach to wellness and coaches clients on ways to make healthy lifestyle changes that are in line with patient-centered goals and honor each Veteran as an expert on their life while ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental. Provide in person clinical visits and utilize virtual care technology such as phone, VA Video Connect (VVC), and Secure Messaging (SM) to improve access to the program. Conduct a comprehensive nutrition assessment utilizing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) for MOVE! program assigned patients. Determine the continuing education needs of program staff and appropriate resources to meet those needs Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to evaluate patient and/or caregiver's readiness to learn and potential for changing behaviors. Assess educational needs and provide nutrition education/counseling for individuals and groups, incorporating a learning approach that considers the cultural, religious, educational and medical situation of the patient. Includes information regarding budgeting, menu planning, food purchasing and preparation, food storage and sanitation. Provide Veterans with education on how to complete Whole Health Personal Health Inventory and document completed Whole Health Personal Inventory and Personal Health Plan in electronic medical record. Participate in community projects and education. Serves on various local, VISN, and national committees and workgroups as needed / assigned. Support MOVE! Program Performance Improvement activities by participating in the development of MOVE! Program indicators, evaluation criteria, collection of performance improvement data, monitoring outcomes, and initiating corrective actions. Maintain productivity standards. Practice effective time management, and prioritizing of tasks to ensure efficient workflow in assigned area. Direct development and revision of patient education materials, clinical forms, and protocols. Serve as the nutrition expert for medical staff on the MOVE! Program of patients including presenting seminars, workshops, and lectures to convey current nutrition information on new and changing concepts. Qualifications: Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Current VHA Dietitians that qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted to a higher grade if they do not meet the current RDN/RD requirements. Grade Determinations: Dietitian (Facility Program Coordinator), GS-12. (1) Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. (2) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of program administration establishes program goals andobjectives, coordinates activities, evaluates accomplishments andsolves problems. (b) Skill in developing quality improvement or research activities. (c) Skill in developing training and reference materials. (d) Ability to develop policies and procedures. (e) Ability to provide program-specific coordination to include leadership, technical advice and staff development. Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs. and over), Light carrying (under 15 lbs.), straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking, standing, repeated bending, climbing, use of legs and arms, ability to see computer screen, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid may be permitted), and visual acuity 20/30. Environmental factors include working with hands in water and working closely with others.
