The objective of R&D Cybersecurity is to reduce the likelihood and potential impact of a cybersecurity incident on SEL and our customers over the next 5 years. The strategic pursuit of World Class Software Development is a critical need for SEL and our customers in rising to the challenge of a rapidly evolving security landscape. To meet this challenge, R&D Product Security is building a Secure Development team of experts to facilitate this endeavor. We are seeking Development Lead Engineers who will oversee the definition, adoption, and ongoing improvement of best processes, practices, and tools in the rapidly evolving software development industry, in accordance with secure development principles, standards and regulations for one of the following domains of SEL FW/SW Development: 

  • Embedded Firmware Development 

  • Desktop Software Application Development 

  • Cloud-native Software Development 

In this position, you will significantly improve SEL’s software development outcomes by serving as a technical expert in HOW we develop firmware/software applications, partnering with product development teams that will focus on WHAT products we are building to achieve business goals. You will work with product teams, development support and internal tools groups to develop best-in-class development processes and infrastructure that aligns with the SEL Principles of Operation and automatically provide proof of secure development practices. You will be proactive in driving our adoption of contemporary approaches to cybersecurity and AI-assisted development. You will lead migration efforts for existing products to adopt these processes and tools, partnering with and teaching teams how to extract maximum value, efficiency, and quality. You will stay up to date with the latest trends in firmware/software development, identifying opportunities for process improvement that will be applicable across your given domain. You will build trust with your stakeholders, serving as a key advisor for teams seeking to build new products or adopt new technology in the domain. Apply today to join our team! 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Serve as the technical software development expert for the processes of specification, design, development, testing, and distribution of components and products in the target domain. 
  • Develop and lead the adoption and ongoing improvement of domain-specific processes that leverage infrastructure and tools to improve the efficiency, quality, and cybersecurity of product development. 
  • Serve as a technical partner, first point of contact, and communication facilitator for product development teams and their support groups. 
  • Maintain awareness of developing trends and technologies related to the target domain. 
  • Model, teach, and apply SEL values and the Principles of Operations. 
  • Understand. Create. Simplify. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. 
  • 8+ years of hands-on firmware/software development experience. 
  • 4+ years of hands-on development in the target domain:  Embedded FW Development, Desktop Application Development, Cloud-native Software Development 
  • 3+ years of experience with technical leadership in application development. 
  • Experience with selecting CI/CD tools and developing CI/CD practices. 
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills 
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills 
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities 
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment 
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL 
  • Willing to travel occasionally (<10%) 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Knowledge of SEL products and solutions 
  • Knowledge of AI-assisted development tools and techniques. 
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity standards relevant to Operational Technology and Critical Infrastructure such as NERC/CIP, FIPS, IEC 62443, etc.

Pay Range Data

Development Lead Engineer $136,100 - $201,100

We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level. Our ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
