Job Summary

Oversee all aspects of Radiation Protection department in conformance to regulations, commitments, industry and VISTRA company standards. Direct, control and coordinate the activities of the department to meet station performance metrics (i.e. cost, quality, availability).

Key Accountabilities

Responsible for the implementation and execution of department programs
Assign tasks and manage personnel
Ensure activities are completed in accordance with standardized procedures.
Ensure satisfactory performance and qualification of assigned personnel;    develop assigned personnel for increased responsibility and more demanding projects.
Exhibit excellent communication. Responsible for providing leadership and direction to ensure that the company is in full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements regarding radiation safety.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

The Manager, Radiation Protection must meet or exceed the minimum qualification requirements of Regulatory Guide 1.8, Rev. 2 at Comanche Peak or Regulatory Guide 1.8, Rev 1 and QAPM Attachment A at Beaver Valley, Davis Besse, and Perry. 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a science or engineering subject, including some formal training in radiation protection.  “Equivalent” in this context means:  a) four years of post-secondary schooling in science or engineering, or b) four years of experience at a nuclear facility in the area for which qualification is sought, or c) four years of operation or technical experience or training in nuclear power, or d) any combination of the above totaling four years.  This is in addition to the five years of professional experience in applied radiation protection.
Five (5) years of professional experience in applied radiation protection with at least three years in a nuclear facility, preferably in an actual nuclear power plant.
Should be familiar with the design features and operations of nuclear power stations that affect the potential for exposures of persons to radiation.
Should have the technical competence to establish radiation protection programs and the supervisory capability to direct the implementation of radiation protection programs.
Physical requirements: Work will be in an office environment, as well as “hard hat” areas (dust, noise, heat, and cold).

Position may involve some travel to production plants and other Vistra locations nationwide.

Supervise, coach and develop Radiation Protection First Line Supervisors
No consequential HU events in the department
Zero OSHA preventable recordable injuries in the department
Maintain CRE and RPI at levels that do not affect station INPO index
